Dear Wrestler and Parent, Another exciting wrestling season has begun. We believe it is an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Island Trees Wrestling Program. To be a part of this program you must make an enormous sacrifice. You will need the support of your family and coaches to achieve your goals. We must never be complacent or take this program for granted. Our goal for this letter is to inform parents and wrestlers what our philosophy and expectations will be throughout the year. At A schedule of practices and matches throughout the season has been linked to this website. Please look at the schedule and refer to it constantly. This schedule is subject to change, and it will be updated promptly. We expect members of our team to be at every practice. We acknowledge there are extenuating circumstances beyond our control that interfere with practices, but these should be few. Please plan family vacations during the time periods when we are off, not during the season. Schoolwork should be managed so that it does not interfere with practice time. Academics are a priority for our program. You need to be a model student. If you are respectful, on time, and turn your work in on time you will achieve success in your classes. You are held to a different standard because you are an athlete at our school. You can control your RESPECT for others, ATTITUDE and WORK ETHIC. Work your hardest and strive to be an outstanding teammate. Practice—Practice starts 2:45-3:00 during the school week. If you have an extenuating circumstance that will prevent you from getting to practice on time or at all, you need to communicate that to a coach prior to practice, not after. Practice will be intense and extremely demanding. We will out work our opponents. Weight Cutting—the weight certification program that is performed by the county is regulated so that each wrestler may only wrestle at the specified weight. The coaches will monitor each athlete’s weight closely this year, and furnish a chart on what each wrestler’s weight will need to be for each competition. Wrestle Offs—the coaching staff knows and understands that wrestle offs can be emotional and hard. Please bear in mind that the coaches’ first responsibility is to make decisions that are best for the team. There will be times we ask wrestlers to wrestle a weight class because it is best for the team. In these times, the coach’s judgment can supersede the wrestle off process. Wrestle offs are for the purpose of forming a lineup for the individual tournaments at which we can only take one or two wrestlers per weight class. For dual meet purposes, the coaching staff will pick the team. We will select what we believe is best for our team at that time. Parents, please check this website for latest news. If you have any questions please feel free to speak to us after practice (please, not during). The
