“Welcome to Physical Education” (Not Gym)

Our three major goals this year are having fun, exhibiting good sportsmanship, and working to the best of one’s ability. They are listed in no particular order as I feel that they are all equally important. I hope you feel the same.

One of our other goals is positive self-esteem, making everyone feel good about whatever talents they have and showing respect for whatever they might contribute. We also try to incorporate the monthly school themes into our class, which are so extremely important in their overall growth.

Your help is needed with your child’s physical well being. In the day of couch potatoes, it is easy to sit back and ride with the waves. In order to set our sails to cross the ocean, your child needs to be encouraged to set goals, one of which is to be physically fit. Please stress the importance of daily exercise. It doesn't have to be hours daily, but ten to fifteen minutes will become habit forming and will start them on their way to a better and healthier life. Why not make it a family venture? It can be fun!

I try to instill in the students many Christian values, and try to make competition a healthy outlet. It is not the end all to be all. Although everyone likes to be a winner, many valuable lessons can be learned if you're on the losing end. If your child gives it their best, what more can we ask? Your encouragement can work wonders with your child’s self esteem. To a certain extent, let’s play down the famous question, “Did you win?” and maybe ask, “Did you give it your best?” If the answer is, “Yes” then they really are a winner. How you react to a situation can go a long way in making sports and physical education a very positive influence in your child’s growth.

The Parent/Student handbook has already spelled out the dress code for PE. If you have any questions, please check the handbook first.

I would just like to add, if a student sustains an injury in school or at home and requires a doctor’s care, I will need a note from the doctor stating that the child is cleared to participate in Physical Education. If on a particular day, your child is not feeling 100% and you wish them to sit out PE, please send in a note stating such.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support with our Physical Education program.

Cheers – Mr. Buff
