SFS Third Grade Week at a Glance

Friday, November 20, 2009

This week we worked on forming opinions about story events. After reading an emotional scene in The War with Grandpa , students expressed in writing their feelings about the positions of the two main characters. We continued revising and editing Thanksgiving essays, reinforced our understanding of homophones, and practiced “kite string” cursive letters t and j.

Last Friday Mrs. Koloff assigned a tree identification project that is due on Monday the 23rd. Please see Mrs. Koloff’s teacher page if you have any questions about this assignment.

As a part of our third grade outreach focus, the third grade will lead a school-wide food drive for Dare to Care. Please support the class’s efforts and help those in need this holiday season by donating canned meats, soups or fruits, spaghetti sauce, dried rice, beans or pasta, boxed cereal, peanut butter, or any other nutritious canned or preserved items. We will also collect monetary donations – for every $1 donated, Dare to Care provides $13 worth of food to a family in need.

Scholastic fliers were sent home last Friday. All orders will be due by Thanksgiving break. If your orders contain gift orders, let me know if you want me to set aside all or part of the order for you to pick up from me secretly. As usual, you may also order online (username: sfsfors, password: frindle).

Students have been practicing diligently this week for next week’s Grandparents’ Day performance. Mrs. Aberle has given us the following information to share with you:
