Central Academy Plagiarism Policy WHAT IS PLAGIARISM? To plagiarize is to use the ideas or language of other people as your own. When you hand in a paper, you're making a promise that all the work in the paper. You must give credit to the writer of any material or ideas that you have borrowed. Therefore, if any of the work on your paper is not your, and you have failed to make this clear to your instructor, then you are deliberately defrauding your teacher, and you are guilty of plagiarism. PENALTIES FOR PLAGIARISM Students who plagiarize will automatically receive a 0 on the plagiarized work. HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARIZING 1) Put all quoted material in quotation marks and indicate, with appropriate documentation method, the specific source (including the page number) of each quotation, even if the quoted material consists only of a single significant word or phrase. 2) Indicate sources of ideas as well as sources of language. If and when you get ideas from others and paraphrase them, be sure to indicate the specific source of every idea, fact, or statistic that you get from someone else’s work. 3) Your work should obviously be your own, not that of a friend, relative, or paper-writing service.
