Supply List: See link to right. Welcome back to Central Academy and Honors English 9. How do you know what you know is true? This year we will explore literature through a different lens. In studying world literature, we will explore what makes these pieces transcend time. What make them "books of literary merit?" Are The Iliad and The Odyssey, the two oldest pieces of literature in the western world, still relevant to students today? Through your own odyssey this ninth grade year, you must discover those truths for yourself. We will study form and structure as it relates to literature and speech. By understanding basic form, you will recognize when a writer breaks from it. As a writer, you, yourself, can make conscious choices to remain within the form or to break from it. But the first step is to see form within the formless. To recognize the author's effort to make writing appear effortless. Some students feel that takes away the magic of reading. I so disagree. I am sure you have an opinion. And I ask again... How do you know what you know is true? And remember... a lot...are two words!
