4T Handbook

|
Welcome to 4T! Similar to the St. Louis Handbook, this is a reference guide for you to refer to throughout the year regarding policies and procedures specific to 4T. Hopefully, this will answer many of the questions you may have, however, please feel free to contact me with any additional questions and concerns. Let’s work together this year to help your child grow both academically and socially and set the foundation for future success! Birthdays Birthdays are an important time for us to acknowledge how special your child is and celebrate who they have become. In addition to the usual "Happy Birthday" song, I will be asking the students to create a small poster about themselves to share the week of their birthday. A sheet with specific guidlines will be sent home a week prior to the students birthday week. Weekend birthdays will be celebrated on Friday afternoons and summer birthdays may be celebrated on the student’s half-birthday, or at a time of your choosing. If you choose to, you may bring in a NON-FOOD treat to share with the class on that day. All students may dress down on the date of their special celebration. Please consult the school handbook for specific guidelines. Contact Information Below is a list of my contact information. If it is a non-urgent matter, email is my preferred method of communication. I will check my school email at 7:30a.m. and 3:30p.m. each day. Additionally, I will use my website as a means of relaying information pertaining to upcoming events and assignments. Email: kterradas@dordcs.org Phone: (585)-586-5200 ext. 423 My Website: Go to schools.dor.org/stlouis, select “Classroom Pages” on the far left, then, select Mrs. Terradas- fourth grade Homework Fourth grade is both a transitional and challenging grade for most students. During this school year, homework assignments are given four nights per week and occasionally over the weekend if we find ourselves falling behind. It is very important that you monitor your child’s homework each night as the pace is quick and each day is full of new material. Each afternoon, the students copy the assignments into their agendas as I write it on the board. I explain each assignment and go over the materials they need to complete these tasks. My website is updated each day so if needed, you can check what needs to be done and when the next scheduled test will be given. I encourage parents to sign your child’s agenda each night. If a student has more than two incomplete assignments in a given quarter, parents will be contacted. New York State Testing As you may know, New York State requires that all fourth graders take three statewide exams: English Language Arts, NYS Math, and NYS Science. Below are the dates for this year’s exams. More information regarding these tests will be provided as we get closer to these dates. NYS ELA: April 17-18 NYS Math: April 23-24 NYS Science Performance Test: May 31 NYS Science Written Test: June 4 Rules/Consequences Children are expected to follow class and school rules. Disturbances in class and poor behavior will not be tolerated. If inappropriate behavior continues after several reminders to the student and contacting home, students may be referred for lunch detention.
