 "Viva Las Vegas" - Hearst Auction
We hope that you can join the parents and staff of Hearst Elementary for our annual auction and a night of FUN, FUN, FUN!! This year's auction theme is Viva Las Vegas. Dress casually or come dressed in "Vegas" attire. The silent auction/cocktails begin at 5:30pm and the 1st tables close at 6:30, so don't be late! Our class has donated a "Man Basket"...keep your eyes peeled! **Many thanks to Jolie Brent who put our auction basket together for us this year! You rock, Jolie!** Tickets are $50 each.  Learning Upgrade
Learning Upgrade is FINALLY up and running at Hearst! Wahoo!! Learning Upgrade is an online reading program, which will take the place of Raz Kids. You should have received a flyer outlining the program on Wednesday, Jan. 10. If you did not receive one, please send me an email or a note to school and I'll make sure you get a new flyer. We've practiced a little during our computer lab time, but it would be great if your child could practice a few times a week at home each week! It's a fun new program which starts off easy and wil get harder over time! Let me know what you think!! Here's what your child will need to do: 1. Go to Learning Upgrade's website at: www.learningupgrade.com. 2. Press LOG IN. 3. Type the username: lunsford 4. Type password: Payton (capital letter 'P') 5. Click on "Choose A Class To View". 6. Select Mrs. Lunsford's Class and click "View". 7. Scroll down until you see your name. 8. Click "Start" next to which program you want to do: Reading Upgrade or Comprehension Upgrade. *Parents can view their child's progress by signing in and clicking on REPORT next to their child's name.
 Free Pizza for Reading!!Our Class has begun a fun reading program called "Book It!" sponsored by Pizza Hut. This program rewards reading achievement in the classroom...with a free pizza!!! Students in B-1 who turn in their completed reading logs for the whole month (without using their free homework pass) will get an award entitling them to a free personal pan pizza at the end of each month! Reading has never been so tasty!
 Meet Our
Star Student of the Week! Our Star Student of the Week is a wonderful boy who is incredibly smart and funny, too! He is a whiz at math and reading and a great friend to everyone! We are so lucky to have him in our class! Want to learn more about our Star Student this week? Just click on 'Star Student of the Week' from the main menu (at the left).
 Hamster-sitting Schedule
Thank you to all of the families who signed up to take care of our class hamster, Daisy, during the weekends and over breaks!!! When it's your weekend to care for her, I will be sending home a care letter, along with a few books about hamsters in case your family would like to learn more about these little critters. She will also come with plenty of food, treats and even a hamster ball! She's quite adorable ~ she'll steal your heart as soon as you lay eyes on her! I've posted the babysitting schedule below in case you need a quick reminder as to which weekend she is assigned to come home to you. Thanks!!!
