FREE DRESS DAY-MONDAY JUNE 9, 2008-WE RAISED $4500 FROM RACE FOR EDUCATION!! June 6, 2008 SPIRIT DAY June 11 is spirit day. Your child may wear P.E clothes or their special blue shirts that some ordered. Please feel free to come help out or just watch! An extra pair of hands is always welcome! GRADUATION Graduation will be on Friday, June 20th at 12:30. The children may wear their dress clothes to school that day. We will have a snack and a light lunch in the classroom before graduation. Please be conscious of what drinks you send in that day (like red or purple!) After graduation, please come back to the room to pick up your child’s can and report card. BOOKS Starting next week, I will be sending home books to work on. They are great for rainy days or if boredom sets in. They are only for fun, so use them for your discretion! BOOKS IN A BAG They have returned all of their “books” for books in a bag. They may keep their bags to play with. If you still have a book at home, please return it. Thank you for all of your support with that program! SUMMER BIRTHDAYS Ryan had a September 2nd birthday, so we celebrated his birthday this week. If your child had a birthday and we missed it, please drop me a note and we will celebrate it! Thank you! I LIBRARY BOOKS All library books are due back by next Tuesday, June 10th. Please search high and low to locate and return them so we don’t have to ask you to pay for them. Thanks! MYSTERY READERS! Thank you to Mrs. Criscione(Nick S.’s grandmother) for being our mystery reader on Monday, Mrs. Allocco for being our mystery reader on Tuesday and Mrs. P (our school nurse) who was a special treat and came in to read to us on Wednesday!!!!!! If you have one at home, please return it as soon as possible. Thank you! CONCERT The concert was fabulous! Thank you for making the effort to attend! MATH We started a new unit on money. The children have a very difficult time recognizes the coins-it is normal-by 8th grade, they will all be able to count money!! Please practice at home. We will continue to work on addition and subtraction in our independent math books. They are all doing SUPER! RELIGION We will continue doing stories about Mary.. I can spend all of my time reading bible stories-what job could be better? NEW LIFE Our room will be bursting with new life next week as our chicks hatch and our butterflies will come out of their chrysalids. How exciting for us to watch! MASS When we went to mass on Wednesday, it was for Stefania’s cousin. How touching to hear the Bonanni name at mass and for the children to find it on the song sheet! On Thursday, Julia asked if we could go to mass for it was for her grandfather’s brother. What a joy to be able to do that-if I was in a public school, it just couldn’t happen. We also kept Mrs. Halayko(surgery went very well) and Mrs. Papadopoulis in our prayers. I know they work-I am here because of all the wonderful prayers when I was sick!!!! TUESDAY Tuesday will be day 5. When we have an unscheduled day off(Friday), we just skip that day on the calendar. NO ONE WILL CLAIM THEM-DROP ME A NOTE IF THEY BELONG TO YOU. THANK YOU! PRAYERS, PLEASE Please keep Mrs. Garrison in your prayers as her mother-in-law passed away on Thursday. RACE FOR EDUCATION Our Race for Education was wonderful! The children did a fabulous job! Thank you to all of the parents who came to cheer us on!!!!! MATH We are starting a unit on money. It is a fun unit and we will continue to work on addition and subtraction. RELIGION We will be working on papers about Mary for the whole month. We will talk about how important she is. How beautiful our “May Crowning” was. We colored in a paper for the crowning and did a “stained glass picture” for Mary. Yesterday, we “made” rosary beads out of beads and beans. BUTTERFLIES We have received our caterpillars and the children each got to put one in a little container with food. We are waiting for the caterpillars to spin their chrysalids. We’ll keep you posted! CHICKS On Wednesday, we got to candle our eggs(look at the egg in a bright light to see inside). We were able to see the eye of the embryo-how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MYSTERY READER Thanks to Mrs. Johnson for reading to us on Friday and bringing us “smarties”. We will have a “zipper club” for those who can zipper! LAST TWO HOMEWORK PAPERS WILL COME HOME. PLEASE RETURN THEM PROMPTLY, SO WE CAN ASSEMBLE THEIR HOMEWORK BOOKS. THANK YOU!!!!! MATH We are working on time-then we will do money-the two things we, as adults, never seem to have enough of! It is a fun unit and we will continue to work on addition and subtraction. RELIGION We will be working on papers about Mary for the whole month. We will talk about how important she is. How beautiful our “May Crowning” will be on May 14. Please join us if you can. BUTTERFLIES We have received our caterpillars and the children each got to put one in a little container with food. After they eat all the food, they will spin a chrysalis (7-10 days). Then, 7-10 days later, they will emerge. We will keep them for a few days and then release them. What a wonderful science experiment about the life cycle. Our butterflies should emerge in a couple of weeks-I’m sure you will hear about it!!!!!! CHICKS I picked up our fertilized eggs on Tuesday. Our incubator is not working, but Mrs. Graziano was kind enough to go to cooperative extension and borrow on for us! They will hatch in 21 days-too much new life in our classroom!!!!!!! MYSTERY READER Thank you to Mrs. Youngs for being our mystery reader last week! PLEASE SEND IN A NEW GLUE STICK-WE ARE ALL OUT AND STILL HAVE PLENTY OF PROJECTS LEFT TO DO!! Congratulations to Isable Ledezma (Dan’s big sister) and Christopher Richards( Jonathon’s big brother) for making their First Holy Communion tomorrow! MR. Q AND MR. J We will meet Mr. Q who is quiet and Mr. J who has jumbled junk. There are so few words for them, that we will combine them into one week. No homework-they each shared a page with another letter! MATH We started a new unit on time. The children love it and we will continue it next week. It is a fun unit and we will continue to work on addition and subtraction. RELIGION We will be working on papers about Mary for the whole month. We will talk about how important she is. UNIFORMS During May and June, the children may wear summer uniforms. The boys do NOT need to wear dress shirts and ties, but may wear P.E. polo tops with their school pants on days that we do not have P.E. On P.E. days, the boys and girls may wear shorts (if it is warm.) EGG-CITING I will pick up our fertilized eggs on Tuesday. We will incubate them on Wednesday and give or take a day, they will hatch in about 3 weeks. You will learn more than you want to know about hatching baby chicks! What a wonderful science experiment about the life cycle. MYSTERY READER Thanks to Mr. Henzel(Julia’s dad) for being our mystery reader last Friday. It was a hot day and we enjoyed a Popsicle treat outside! DUDE RANCH I am spending the weekend at the dude ranch. Watch for a postcard in your mailbox. I promise this one will get here before I get home! We will discuss on the hour and the half-hour. Please work on them at home. We will continue reviewing our addition and subtraction. RELIGION We will be doing stories about Jesus and we love Him. I can spend all of my time reading bible stories-what job could be better? Find out what your child’s favorite bible story is. When we were in mass one day, Nick K. turned to me and said “the priest is talking about John and Peter from our play (Resurrection Celebration). How exciting when it clicks! SUMMER UNIFORMS Since the weather became hot all of a sudden, the children may wear our summer uniforms. On P.E. days, the boys and girls may wear shorts(if it is warm.) Mrs. Shannon Has your child told you about our student teacher, Mrs. Shannon? She is a student from Hudson Valley Community College and observes on Tuesday mornings. She did a project about doctors last Tuesday, so you may have seen some masks, band-aids or toothbrushes that she brought in to share with the children. The children love her and her happy smile. CHICKS I tried to get the fertilized eggs this week so we could hatch our baby chicks, but everyone else had the same idea. I will pick them up on May 6 and they will hatch around May 28th. BOOK ORDERS If you would like to purchase books, please send in your order by next Friday, May 2nd. Thank you for all of your support this year. The children were excited to see Flat Stanley on the book order! UPCOMING DATES May 20-Spring Concert-6:30. Please be at school by 6:15 May 21-Mass at 9-please join us June 20-Mass at 9 and Graduation at 12:30, last day of kindergarten April 11, 2008 CHICKS We will be getting fertilized eggs when we get back from vacation. You will find out more than you want to know about how baby chicks are born. It is one of my favorite projects of the year! The miracle of new life in our room is so “egg-citing”! REPORT CARDS Report cards are coming home today. Please review them, sign the comment sheet and return it after vacation. Drop me a note if you would like to meet with me or any of our special teachers to discuss your child’s progress. There was a problem from the diocese about attendance, so please just ignore it (the joy of computers)! MR. V We will meet Mr. V and his violet velvet vest on Monday after vacation. We will have a VERY good week! MATH We will continue on measurement-the children love measuring with interlocking cubes! FLAT STANLEY WOW! Flat Stanley has been all over the place! Hannah’s went to Potsdam and Pennsylvania. Nick S. and Dan’s both went to Massachusetts. Alexis and Lily Y’s went to their houses. Stefania’s went to Maine where they had a ton of snow! VACATION Have a safe and relaxing vacation. I will be in Las Vegas, so watch for a post card-hopefully it will get here before I get back! UPCOMING DATES
