Welcome to K-2!
June 12, 2009 Extra clothes – if your child is not returning to Saint Pius next year or if your child has outgrown his/her polo shirts, shorts or sweats, please think about donating them to our room for “accidents” next year. It seems when they go home, they never return. Thanks GRADUATION Graduation will be next Friday, at 12:30 in the parish center (yes, it’s air-conditioned!). Please feel free to invite relatives or friends for our happy occasion. Please send your child to school in dress-up clothes. We will NOT go out for recess. Please send a light snack and lunch since graduation is at our lunch time, so we will need to eat early. They will be very excited and won’t have big appetites. Following the ceremony, the first grade parents invite you to have refreshments they have provided. After you pick up your child, please come back to the room for mail folders, cans and report cards. You may then take them home and enjoy the beginning of summer! BOOKS, BOOKS AND MORE BOOKS! You have been receiving an abundance of books. Some are books that we just didn’t get to and their independent math books are good for enrichment. Put them in a safe place and when you have a rainy day or your child gets bored, pull them out and let them play school. Please read, read, read, write, write, write, play, play, play and pray, pray, pray over the summer. It is the BEST way to prepare your child for first grade. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Thank you for your generous support all through the year! Thank you to Mrs. Pavelec, my wonderful aide who loved your child as much as I did. Thank you to my room mothers’ –Mrs. Genito and Ms. Reed (Riley’s mom) - who made our parties fun and did well above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you to Mrs. Bazinet, Ms. Thomas (Logan’s mom) Mrs. Rodriguez and Mrs. Lamoutte for helping out with centers. Thank you to all of you who were fortunate to have the time to be our mystery readers-we loved it! I appreciate all of the little extras that made my job easier! READING LIST I have attached the most frequently read reading words. They do NOT need to know them for first grade, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt them. SPIRIT DAY Spirit day was FUN! Thank you to everyone who was able to come and spend an hour or the whole day - I blessed you for it! MYSTERY READER Thank you to Mrs. Watson (Michael Losavio’s grandma) for being our last mystery reader. GOOD-BYE, GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU! This is the most difficult newsletter to write-the final one of the year! It seems like just yesterday when I met the children at orientation-where did the year go? Saying good-bye is never easy and when the children leave me on Friday, they will take a part of my heart with them. I always say it is a good year when we start the year with their tears and my smiles and end with my tears and their smiles. It has been a great year! We have laughed together(a lot),cried together and we’ve all grown a little. Thank you for sharing their very first year in school with them. It has been my pleasure (and Mrs. Pavelec’s) to teach them and learn to love them. When the year started, it was a VERY long day. Now, I often hear, “Is it time to go home already?” (that’s not from me!) How time flies when you are having fun-and we are! I look forward to seeing them in first grade and they all better come back and give me hugs! God made each child with his/her own individual personality and I will remember them each in a special way. Don’t blink or they will be in eighth grade, sitting with my new kindergarteners at mass and having donuts with us! My oldest son, Dan, is now a lawyer in N.H. and my “baby” Tim is in his new house, working hard and anticipating his wedding this October. They just grow up too quickly! My only hope is the one thing that they will take from kindergarten to last them a lifetime is the knowledge that I loved each of them very much, just like Jesus. Have a wonderful summer. Send us a postcard if you go on vacation! Mrs. Hynes Mrs. Pavelec 188 Cedarview Lane 309 Osborne Road Watervliet, NY 12189 Loudonville, NY 12211 June 5, 2009 Please send in a water bottle to keep in school. Thank you! Other classes will supply water, drinks and desserts. Your child may wear P.E clothes or their special pink shirts that some children ordered. Please feel free to come help out or just watch! An extra pair of hands is always welcome! GRADUATION Graduation will be on Friday, June 19th at 12:30. The children may wear their dress clothes to school that day. We will have a snack and a light lunch in the classroom before graduation. Please be conscious of what drinks you send in that day (like red or purple!) After graduation, please come back to the room to pick up your child’s can and report card. BOOKS This week, I will be sending home books to work on. They are great for rainy days or if boredom sets in. They are only for fun, so use them for your discretion! BOOKS IN A BAG They have returned all of their “books” for books in a bag.
