Welcome!

I am Mrs. Gotham, one of our 2 Kindergarten teachers at St. Rita School.  Thanks for checking out our school web site.  I hope you find the information you are looking for!  All of us at SRS are happy to help you in any way we can!

In Sept. '13, I will begin (hopefully :) ) my 9th year teaching Kindergarten at SRS.  I LOVE my job!  There isn't enough room here to go into exactly why - but I can sum it up somewhat by saying SRS is a truly God-centered and child-centered environment.  I strive to seek and see God daily in my own life and being with these lovable 5 and 6 year olds helps me to do that - they see life so simply and honestly.  Being with them and learning from/with them helps keep things in perspective for me!  When you can come spend some time with us, you'll see what I mean!!!  You have chosen a gentle, loving but also challenging school for your child!  God guided your decision - I am convinced that is why you're reading this!!!!

Full-day Kindergarten

Within 1 - 2 months of my first year teaching Kindergarten, I discovered how truly exciting yet difficult and monumental starting full-day Kindergarten can be for a 4, 5 or 6 yr. old.  These fragile, innocent little people are expected to perform a lot of adult behaviors in their first month of full-time schooling - I compare it to adults being transferred to a different city for a new job where (for the most part) they know NO ONE at all.  For these little people coming to Kindergarten, there are so many new things/uncertainties for them.  To list a few, there are: riding a bus, being away from home for a whole day, meeting a new regular classroom teacher, Sr. Katherine Ann, the office staff as well as ALL the special class teachers and attending their classes (art, music, phys.ed., library, computer), eating lunch with new friends, familiarizing oneself with a new school building, new bathrooms - need I go on??  The point I want to make is that this can be very scary for the children and we know this.  Not all children will feel intimidated by attending full-day Kindergarten, but for those who think their child might be - some suggestions, you may ask??  When you receive a correspondence (from me, if I am your child's teacher) in late August, come visit the school, if even simply driving by whenever you can.  The week or 2 before school starts, I will be in the classroom preparing for the upcoming school year.  Come meet me!  To make sure I am there, you may want to call the office @ 671 - 3132 or email me at kgotham@dordcs.org to arrange a time when we can meet and talk more at length.  We will set a date for a Kindergarten parent information meeting BEFORE school starts as that time approaches.  Open house for all kindergartners is Tues. Sept. 4.  Our first day of school is Wed. Sept. 5 and it is a full day of school for all students.

Starting Kindergarten is an exciting time in your child's AND family's life - I want to do what I can to make sure you are happy and at ease with your child's transition into Kindergarten!  We have great fun learning at St. Rita!  Just wait and see!!!

PLEASE click on Summer Fun and Forms on the school web page for important information re: forms due at the beginning of the school year!  (Make sure you scroll down to the links.)  Also make sure you have completed a Comings and Going Form and After Care paperwork if your child will be attending.  Paper work will seems unending - any headstart you can get on it will only help you!!!  TRUST ME!
