Parent Tips Tips for Parents

Parents We Need your help!

Here are some things YOU can do to help your son or daughter be successful in Computer Literature!

1.  Check his/her planner EVERY night !

The first 10 minutes of every class is Prime Time!  Your child should copy the day’s objective, activities and homework (which for this class is usually NONE) during prime time.  If their planner is blank, he/she is playing around!  It’s time for some straight talk.

2.  Check his/her vocabulary EVERY night … but Friday !

One new vocabulary word is added every day and 3 vocabulary words are added on block days.  These Vocabulary Web Pages are turned in each Friday and returned to students for later reference.  Ask to see his/her vocabulary web sheet.  Does he/she have a grasp on the new word?

3.  Check Parent Link weekly !

Grades are uploaded regularly.  If there are any “mi” marks your student really needs to come to Open Lab to catch up.  If there are many “mi” marks, your student is playing around in class and this might be a good time to have a “chat”.  I’m a softy on late work, so there is no excuse for missing work!

4.  Open Lab

This is my GIFT to my students!  We have Open Lab beginning at 7:30 Tuesday mornings and after school on Wednesdays until 3:15.  A late bus is available to take students home.  Students must have a signed note from a parent to attend Open Lab.  Any note will do, I’ve given the kids Open Lab Passes, but a note from you on an old envelope does just as well.

4.  Practice, Practice, Practice

Web site addresses for FREE keyboarding programs for at home practice are included on InTouch, this web site, and were given out to students in class.  Kids who practice keyboarding increase their skills dramatically…even if they only practice for a few minutes each evening.  Be sure they are not doing the “Two Finger Polka” on the keyboard.  They must be able to touch type to pass this class.
