Keyboarding Information Our 6th grade computer class provides students with the opportunity to meet the Computer Literacy Requirement for high school graduation. Students who do not meet the Nevada State standard will be given the opportunity to earn this credit in High School. The Nevada State Computer Standard reads: NVCS 1.8 “The Student will demonstrate correct keyboarding techniques with a minimum speed of 20 – 30 Words Per Minute and accuracy of no more than 2 errors on three two-minute timed tests.” To help students reach these goals we use a sequential keyboarding program which allows students to work at their own pace through a series of lessons, each building upon the skills acquired in the previous lesson. Students work through each lesson, then take an assessment piece. Students are able to review their own performance on each lesson assessment. If a student is not satisfied with his/her score, he/she may elect to retake just the assessment portion, then sign a clipboard in the classroom advising the teacher which lesson is to be graded. Once a student signs the clipboard and the lesson is graded they may not retake that assessment. (200 students X 30 lesson = 6,000 corrected keyboarding lessons each quarter!!!) A “Google” search for “keyboarding” can provide links to many free programs to download for at home practice, or click on the link below. Type On Line Free Keyboarding Program for Practice at Home
