 Class Newsletter

Nov. 2 - 6, 2009

We have a student in our class that has a severe peanut allergy. Please read the back of the packages when you buy snacks to be sure the item you send does not contain peanuts, peanut oil, or other peanut products. Thank you!

In Reading/Language Arts this week we will learn our second word family, the -an family. Members of this family are an, can, fan, man, pan, ran, tan, and van.  We will also  work with rhyming words.  Our new "star words" this week are ‘he', ‘she', ‘me', and ‘we'.  Our sight words  we have covered so far are, ‘a', ‘I', ‘go', ‘to', ‘my', ‘the' , ‘like', ‘do' and ‘at'.  This week's homework is attached to this newsletter.  Library day is on Thursday.  I will be doing some assessments this week. Interim reports will be sent home next Wednesday, the 11th. Interim reports are reports that are sent home at the mid point of the 9 weeks to show the student's progress. This week in Math we will begin learning how to write the numbers 6-10. The children will work in a booklet that will come home when we are finished with it. There will not be Math papers coming home this week.

Next Wednesday (the 11th) is Veteran's Day.  Every year we have a really nice Veteran's Day program to honor our local veterans. If you know  a veteran,  please have him/her call the school to find out how they can be honored. The program will be at 1:00 pm. Each class does something for the vets. Some classes sing patriotic songs or read things that they wrote, some make things to decorate the gym. Every year, my class makes a gift for the veterans. This year we are making a coffee cup for each veteran. The children will also decorate gift bags with glittered stars and color them red, white, and blue We will put the cups in the gift bags and give them to the veterans. If you would like to attend the program, everyone is invited.

Some of the books we will be reading this week are:
