Wow, we are already done with almost 6 weeks of school.  What a great group this is.  Pretty soon we will be learning all about what the 4th grade ELA tests look like and all the strategies and skills necessary to be very successful on these tests.  Get ready to write!  I know you will.  Some of the children have already filled in one Quality Work board and are working on their second!  This has never happened so soon in the school year.  I haven't heard one unkind remark or comment about anyone in our class and that makes me happier than all the assignments in the world!  Keep up the great work and keep up growing into great human beings.

Changing Classes: Mrs. Pfister teaches Social Studies and I teach Science to both of our classes.  If you were in Mr. Garab's or Mrs. LaPolla's classes last year you already know how to change for Science and Social Studies.  Only we change everyday.  Many times we combine both classes, so if you have a friend in Mrs. Pfister's class you will get to see him or her often.

Science

Science: You will love Science. Each one of you will be doing Science Experiments and Presentations throughout the year in addition to the ones we do together.  It will be so much fun. You will have your picture taken complete with a Science Lab jacket.   Our topics for 4th Grade are: Roles of Living Things Systems in Living Things Solar System Magnetism and Electricity Properties of Matter We watch Bill Nye often and learn to become Super Scientists following the Scientific Method of finding and testing our Hypotheses.

Math is awesome. I love teaching Math and I promise you that you will learn what you have to if you focus and pay attention and do your homework. You will have fun with your dry erase boards. The 5 content strands are: Number Sense and Operations Algebra Geometry Measurement Statistics and Probability The focus is on developing Problem Solving skills through conceptual understanding combined with Procedural fluency.

Testing

By now I am sure you know that you will have 3 big tests this year in addition to all your weekly Spelling, Math and Reading Tests. These tests are in Science, ELA, and Math. The ELA test is in January and the Math test is in March. The Science Test for 4th graders is in May. Mrs. Pister and I promise you that you will be prepared for these tests. You will have to work hard and pay attention and if you do, we know you will be happy to show how much you know when test time comes around. You will rise to the challenges.

Classroom Behavior
Behavior The word for the year is RESPECT. We must all respect each other and each other’s things. We will respect the school and everyone in it and in return you will get the respect you deserve. You will conduct yourself in my room, in Mrs. Pfister’s room, in the hall, in Specials, in the Cafeteria and on the Playground as if I am standing next to you. In return you will find we will have a wonderful time this year and we will have many treats for you as the year goes along. You are very special people and you will find each day to be a happy one in Room 32.
