Home Page Mrs. Tabacco Room 32

Halloween is a thing of the past and now we can eagerly await Thanksgiving and Christmas.  But in the meantime we are going to get back to work.  We had a rough couple of weeks with so many of our class sick at home.  I am hoping everyone can start and finish up the month of November happy and healthy!

In the next few weeks our learning plan looks like this:

Math:  In Math we will be contiuing our unit on Addition and Subtraction.  Most of the children have a good foundation upon which we can build.  I am hoping we can rely less on our fingers as we go along.  I am also beginning to use multiplicaton facts during our Around the World time and it is paying off.  Some children have already begun to master a few of them.

ELA: We will continue to read selections from our anthology.  Our new trade book we read together at the end of the day is Double Fudge   Some groups have finished a book on the Listen Lab and are beginning their second. We will continue to learn how to support a topic sentence with supporting details in Writing as well as perfect our Vocabulary Sentences we write each week.Writing pieces will continue to supplement our reading selections. We will continue to practice and perfect our cursive writing skills.

Social Studies:  Continue our study of Mexico using our new Social Studies Text book.  We will study the geography, history, economy, government, and culture of Mexico, South Africa, Italy, Canada, and China.

Science: In Science we began a Unit on Weather.  We will begin with a study of the Water Cycle.  Childen were surprised to learn that there is no new water on the Earth.  Makes you think!

The 5 content strands are: Number Sense and Operations Algebra Geometry Measurement Statistics and Probability The focus is on developing Problem Solving skills through conceptual understanding combined with Procedural fluency.

Testing

>By now I am sure you know that you will have 2 big tests this year in addition to all your weekly Spelling, Math and Reading Tests. These tests are in ELA, and Math. The ELA test is in April and the Math test will be in May. I promise you that you will be prepared for these tests. You will have to work hard and pay attention and if you do, we know you will be happy to show how much you know when test time comes around. You will rise to the challenges.

Classroom Behavior
>Behavior The word for the year is RESPECT. We must all respect each other and each others things. We will respect the school and everyone in it and in return you will get the respect you deserve. You will conduct yourself in my room, in Mrs. Pfisters room, in the hall, in Specials, in the Cafeteria and on the Playground as if I am standing next to you. In return you will find we will have a wonderful time this year and we will have many treats for you as the year goes along. You are very special people and you will find each day to be a happy one in Room 32.
