Dear Parents, I am honored to be your child’s teacher this year. Second grade is a stimulating and an amazing place to be! Exciting learning takes place each and every day. Our days this year in second grade will be filled with many wonderful experiences and the opportunity to learn and grow! As children transition from first to second grade they will develop a wide-range of reading skills and strategies through the use of quality literature and phonics. As a second grader, your child will be provided with many creative writing experiences and a wide-range of math activities that will encourage critical learning. In Religion, Social Studies and Science, we will explore various themes that will motivate young learners. On the first day of school and every morning your child may choose to have a mid-morning snack. We like to model and teach good healthy eating habits in the classroom. Please have your child bring a nutritional snack (fruits, vegetables, pretzels, crackers etc.) If your son or daughter is eating a snack that needs a fork or spoon please provide one for them. Shortly after we settle in, you will be invited to Parent Information Night on September 11th. I will discuss our schedule, instructional programs, homework and school policies. I believe that parents and teachers are partners in helping your child have a successful year. I encourage you to contact me with any concerns, questions or comments that you might have. You can always leave a message for me on my voicemail (ext. 416), write a note or e-mail me at jscopa@dordcs.org. I look forward to a wonderful year with you and your child. See you on September 3rd! Sincerely, Janine Scopa
