Units of Study

Here are the units of study for Contemporary World Studies.  You will find the Enduring Understandings for each unit.  An enduring understanding is a key point that you will learn in the unit.

Unit 1 Introduction to World Cultures  - This unit will cover the influence of geography on the culture, economy, and political system of a region.

Unit 2 Latin America  - This unit will cover the diversity of culture and resources.

Unit 3 Contemporary Europe  - This unit will cover diversity and commonality of culture.  It will cover how demographic and physical features influence the development of institutions.

Unit 4 Modern Asia  - This unit will cover how institutions have transmitted and sustained cultural beliefs and values.  It will cover the influence of population and resources on economic development.  It will cover the influence of geography and tradition on cultural diffusion.

Unit 5 Modern Africa  - This unit will cover the impact of imperialistic goals on underdeveloped nations.  It will cover how geography can unify and separate peoples into unique cultures and societies.  It will cover how conflict and cooperation lead to cultural sharing and diffusion.

Unit 6 Middle East - This unit will cover how the past influences the present.  It will cover the global interdependence on energy resources.It will cover the influence of culture on international politics.
