This course provides students with the understanding necessary for active citizenship in a participatory democracy. Students are introduced to the historical foundations of United States government, its institutions, functions, responsibilities, and impact on citizens. Students also understand the role and responsibilities of citizenship toward ensuring the continuation of the American way of life. In addition, students are introduced to the concept of world interdependence and the influence of our nation in world affairs. All students must complete a written research project in this course. Successfully passing the Maryland High School Assessment for Government is required to receive credit. NOTE: The quizzes on this website were compiled using the MSDE public release assessment items.
