I have to say that I love geometry projects. This year, I was definitely not disappointed. The projects were incredible! Once I get them displayed, I hope to take some pictures to show off how amazing these students are! We will start chapter 5 next week, which will complete our study of triangles. In the beginning of this chapter, students will learn about special segments in triangles, study right triangles, and explore indirect proof and inequalities. There will be a quiz on this material Monday, November 16. Then, we will focus on inequalities with one or two triangles. The quiz on the second half of this chapter is tentatively scheduled for Monday, November 30. The test on this chapter is planned for Tuesday, December 1. Today, students took the test on chapter 3. Next week, we will begin to analyze triangles. We will classify triangles by angle and side length, measure angles, and examine congruent triangles. The next quiz on this material (4-1 to 4-3) will be on Friday, October 23. Then, we will prove triangles congruent and study isosceles triangles. There will be a quiz on sections 4-4 to 4-6 on Monday, November 2. The test on this chapter is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 5. Next week, students will be given the options for their first project. This project will be due on Friday, November 6. Don't procrastinate!! Students will be taking the test on Chapter 2 today. Tomorrow, we will begin Chapter 3 on perpendicular and parallel lines. This week, students will examine transversals, skew lines, parallel lines, and angles. We will also review slope and apply relationships between parallel and perpendicular lines on the coordinate plane. The next quiz on this material will be on Monday, October 5. Then, we will prove lines parallel, examine distance, and explore spherical geometry. The quiz on sections 3-4 and 3-5 is tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 12. The chapter test is tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 16. We are currently working in chapter 2 on reasoning and proof. Students have learned the difference between inductive and deductive reasoning as well as worked with conjectures, if-then statements, and logic laws. Tomorrow, students will work with 2-column proofs and review properties from algebra. There will be a quiz on this material on Friday, September 18. Next week, we will practice 2-column proofs with segment and angle relationships. There will be a quiz on these sections on Thursday, September 24. The test on chapter 2 is tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 28. We have completed chapter 1 on points, lines, planes, and angles. On Tuesday, we will review the material and the test on chapter 1 will be given on Wednesday, September 9. In Chapter 2, students will explore reasoning and proof. They will begin by examining inductive and deductive reasoning, conjecturing, and if-then statements. Then, students will work more with proving relationships between segments and angles as well as learn the two-column proof format. I hope everyone enjoys the 3 day weekend!! We are currently working in chapter 1 on getting familiar with points, lines, and planes. We have reviewed the coordinate planes and using formulas. Students have also started to use diagrams for specific situations involving the orientation of points, lines, and planes. Tomorrow we will work with measuring segments. There will be a quiz on the material covered so far on Friday, August 28. After school help sessions will begin next week for those students that are interested. Please refer to my syllabus or contact me if you would like to know times and days. Welcome to Geometry! It's wonderful to see so many familiar faces. I think we are going to have an exceptional year. On Wednesday, I will be going over the syllabus and the expectations of the course. On Thursday, we will review the algebraic concepts that are necessary for Geometry. On Friday, I will administer a basic skills test to be sure that all students are prepared for the concepts and skills that we cover in Geometry. Students must have fully mastered the major concepts in Algebra I to be successful in Geometry and later high school math courses. We will begin chapter 1 on Monday. More on that soon!
