My name is Julee Loorya. My first name is spelled Julee because my mom’s name is Judy and my dad’s name is Lee they put the two together and ended up with my name. My last name in pronounced Lori with a long A sound at the end. I grew up right here in the wonderful beach community of Redondo Beach in sunny southern California. My house was across the street from the beach and it was really neat to be able to see the sunset every night. I moved away from home when I was 18 years old to go to college at the University of California at Santa Barbara. College is GREAT!!! I hope that you all have the chance to go to college. During my second year in college, I met my husband, who grew up in Petaluma, Ca. After college I went on to obtain my Multiple Subject CLAD Clear Teaching Credential from Chapman University and then I moved to Petaluma and got married. It was hard to move away from the beach, but I grew to really like Petaluma and it was neat to be able to call two places home. We lived in Petaluma for three years and then moved back to southern California. I love being close to the beach and my family and I am so happy to live here, however, I do miss some parts of Northern California too like Matt’s family, my friends, and the wide-open spaces. Moving around has provided me with the opportunity to have taught in a number of different schools and districts which allowed me to gain experience in all the grades kindergarten through sixth. I have wanted to teach since second grade and cannot think of any other job that I would rather do! I strive to help make our world a better place by helping children develop into well rounded contributing members of society. Our classroom is truly a community in which children not only learn about curriculum, but also character education and life lessons. I love being in the classroom and working with my scholars. I have always enjoyed working with children perhaps because I am the oldest of four kids; I have two brothers and one sister, who I love very much! I also have two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law who are amazing people that I am thankful are in my life! Besides my husband and family my favorite beings are my dogs Bella and Sophia. I really, really, really love them (even though sometimes I get really, really, really frustrated with them) I earned my Masters of Arts in Education with an emphasis in curriculum design and instruction at Chapman University. I believe that it is important for me to continue my education and improve as a professional. I am constantly learning and striving to find more effective ways to teach scholars. I am also an education consultant for a company that contracts with the department of defense and education about various products. I also spend one night a week at Pottery Barn, my favorite store; I buy so much there that I need that employee discount and it is a lot of fun! When I am not teaching or working at another job, I like to do many different things, however, we bought a house and therefore most of our time is spent working on that. As you can see from the pictures it required a lot of work when we got it, in fact it was what you would call a "fixer-upper", but it is coming right along and I love it. Luckily, Matt is very handy and can fix just about anything (I am so lucky)! I also love spending time with my family and friends, I like lying in the sun and reading a good book. Soccer and volleyball are my favorite sports to play, but I like watching just about every sport. I also enjoy hiking and going to the gym. Sometimes I sit and crochet, although I have been working on the same blanket for the last 7 years, which tells you that I do not do that too often. I love traveling, going to the theater to see plays, and the movies are really fun too! My favorite color is blue. I love candles that smell like clean laundry, chocolate with caramel, and anything to do with the ocean. My favorite drink is water, and I really like Mexican and Italian food. I like all different kinds of music; however, my favorite by far is country! My most exciting new news...by far...is that I am pregnant and we are expecting our first baby in December. We cannot wait to hold that bundle of joy in our arms! Both you and your scholar are going to have a wonderful year filled with exciting new adventures. I guarantee that there will be a lot of learning and a lot of fun. I truly view learning as a partnership between teachers, parents, students, and the school community and I cannot wait to help scholars learn and enjoy this first year as a Birney Bobcat.
