| Week of October 26-30 | | 6th Graders and 8th Graders will be in the Computer Lab 206 on Monday and Wednesday of this week. 6th Graders will be working on their Pop Corn Lab Report. 8th Graders will be working on two assignments involving waves, seismic waves, and Electromagnetic Waves. Science Fair: On Tuesday, all competitors can check student folders (mailboxes) in classroom. In your mailbox, you should find a colored science fair folder with all of your forms and your research plan inside. If the Checklist for the Adult Sponsor has been signed, that means your project has been approved and you may begin your experimentation. If your checklist has not been signed or there is not special folder in your mailbox, you will need to see Mrs. Flynt about your project. Also, please check your research plan, bibliography, and all forms for suggested revisions. These MUST be incorporated in your final version. Students will conduct 10 trials testing ¼ full and ¾ full water bottle rockets while using the altitude trackers to determine maximum height at apogee. 3rd Period: Review Phases of Matter Venn Diagram Journal Entry. Discuss and differentiate between the characteristics of solids, liquids and gasses due to the motion and spacing of their particles. However, after repeated delays, the launch was eventually scrubbed until tomorrow (same launch window). | | Daily Launch | 1st Period: Watch updates on possible launch of Ares rocket. Both: Locate Current Events article and begin working on Current Events assignment. | Turn in homework to INBOX for a grade. Journal Entry: Action/Reaction Force Pairs. | Organize Portfolios. Students will add several assignments to their portfolio. Please see Portfolio TOC in the classroom. | | Daily Mission | Science Fair students will locate Science Fair folders in their student mailbox. Mrs. Flynt will meet with each student to go over needed or suggested revisions to Research Plans and required changes on official forms. Whenever a student revises and returns a document to their science fair folder, the student must turn the folder so it sticks up out of the mailbox. This will tell Mrs. Flynt that there is something that she needs to check or approve. | Marker Wars Review Session Students will use student response boards to review some of the vocab terms and basic concepts covered in Physical Oceanography unit since the beginning of the year. Concepts covered in class: features of the ocean floor, history of ocean floor mapping, bathymetry, characteristics of oceanic and continental crust. Topics to continue to review tonight: structure of the earth and characteristics of Earth’s layers, types of waves, types of seismic waves, use of seismic waves to study Earth’s interior, parts of a wave, evidence for Theory of Continental Drift, types and real-world examples of plate boundaries. | | Al other students will work on current events articles today in class. Most students are in the process of finishing up their summary rough draft. The last few minutes of 1st period were spent reviewing how to calculate percent difference. | Students will evaluate several student-generated examples of possible action/reaction force pairs.
