St. Mary's Institute offers an academic Social Studies Department for students in Grades 6, 7, & 8.
Grade 6 covers World History and grades 7 & 8 focus on American History. Students will study a variety of topics and will work on vital Social Studies skills, such as writing, researching, interpreting maps & political cartoons, as well as keeping track of current events. With the 2008 elections entering their prime-time season, this will be an exciting time to learn how our democracy works!
Students in the 8th grade will spend part of the second half of the school year reviewing the material they learned in 7th grade. This will be in preparation for the 8th Grade New York State U.S. History test that will be given in June.
