The first step to completing your practicum.

CAA Seminar & Practicum Project Plan of Action Assignment

The first step to completing your Practicum will be to create a Plan of Action that outlines how you will go about finishing the remainder of the project.  The two objectives of the Plan of Action are (a) to choose a field or career to explore and (b) to prepare to find potential mentors within that career or field.  In order to accomplish these objectives, you will complete the following requirements that, in total, will count as your Plan of Action:

PHASE ONE:

Ø  Statement of Intent: A one-page, memo-style document that includes a complete-sentence, paragraph-form description of the following:

o   Naming of your field or career of experience that can realistically be accomplished across the course of this year and within fifteen [15] hours of fieldwork.

o   Explanation of your field or career of experience that displays a thorough understanding of that field or career.

o   Statement of a goal of what you hope to learn from the fieldwork that is challenging enough to create a learning stretch.

Ø  Potential Contact List: A list of three [3] networking possibilities that could potentially serve as your field/career mentor with a complete-sentence, paragraph-form description of the following for each contact:

o   Main objective of the individual or organization (at least one sentence for each contact).

o   Core activities carried out by the individual or organization (at least one sentence for each contact).

o   Statement of how the individual or organization is relevant to your fieldwork goal (at least one sentence for each contact).

NOTE: You will be graded not only upon the relevance of these contacts to your field/career of experience but also upon your use of sources besides the individual or organization him/her/itself while summarizing each contact.

Ø  Information Search: Parenthetical citations and a works cited page for your Statement of Intent and Contact List with the following number of sources related to your field or career of experience:

o   Honors: At least six [6] sources with at least one [1] for each potential contact.

o   CPS: At least four [4] sources with at least one [1] for each potential contact.

Submit the above three components as one Microsoft Word or Adobe .pdf document in the “Practicum Phase #1: Statement of Intent & Contact List” form for your class.

PHASE TWO:

Ø  Resume: A properly formatted resume about you that includes at least the following information in an effort to (a) clearly & easily convey the most important information about you and (b) include many indicators of your responsibility, motivation, and work ethic:

o   Education, especially as it relates to your field/career of experience.

o   Activities and/or Employment, especially as they relate to your field/career of experience.

o   Skills, especially as they relate to your field/career of experience.

NOTE: You may re-submit a revised version of the resume that you completed as a homework assignment during Unit 1.  Remember, the version for your project will be graded based upon the criteria in the rubric, so make any changes suggested by Mr. Della Rovere during office hours.

Ø  Cover Letter: A one-page, business-formatted letter to your favorite potential contact that conveys the following information:

o   Opening paragraph that indicates who you are, how you came to know about the individual / organization, and why you are writing.

o   Second paragraph that tells why you are interested in the type of work the individual / organization does, relates your background to the work / organization, and highlights your specific qualifications.

o   Last paragraph that indicates what you want to happen next and how you will follow up with the potential contact.

Submit the above two components as separate Microsoft Word or Adobe .pdf documents in the “Practicum Phase #2: Resume & Cover Letter” form for your class.
