Guided by faith...in all we do and who we are. The winds of November are here, and the 6th graders have settled into a familiar routine at Shrine. The teachers recognize that our students are respectful, kind, and eager to learn. We see them on the corners (even on rainy mornings), cleaning up litter and recycling, helping little buddies at Mass, tidying up the art room, the science lab, and the computer lab. They are truly demonstrating faith filled lives. We're looking forward to meeting all of the parents at the conferences later in the month. Do not hesitate to use this time as an opportunity to discuss ways to improve study habits and organization. We are preparing the students for the rigors of Junior High, when their organizational skills will be most important. Each day the teachers focus on helping the students improve listening skills, following directions, critical thinking skills, and accepting personal responsibility for behavior. Focusing on percentages and grades in 6th grade are not as important as other lessons and habits that develop in middle school. Our biggest focus and effort should be working as partners, at home and in the classroom, to teach and model to the students life-long lessons about being proud of their accomplishments, always doing one's best work, and loving God. We will be off to the Symphony on Friday, November 6th. This is always a rewarding cultural experience as it will be integrated with classroom lessons on sound, writing activities, and discussion about etiquette and orchestras. Stop by the halls of Shrine and check out the quality work hanging throughout the building. Presently you will see 6th grade Egyptian projects, saint posters, math projects, and art work! The teachers are repeatedly wiping down desks and door knobs with disinfecting wipes and reminding the students to use tissues and to wash hands frequently. Please do your part and keep sick children home! We will work hard to make sure your child gets "caught up" with assignments and reviews. Keeping everyone healthy should be a main priority. Mrs. Dixon has asked all teachers to remind parents to leave dogs at home at dismissal times! The dogs are adorable - but protecting more than 500 children and keeping them safe must remain our biggest concern. Our 6th Grade "stars" shine!!!!!!
