1. Odd numbers-  numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9

 

2. Even numbers-  numbers ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8

 

3.  >   - symbol for greater than

 

4.  <   - symbol for less than

 

5.  =  - symbol for equal to

 

6.  ˜  - symbol for approximately

 

7.  Sum-  answer to an addition problem

 

8.  Difference-  answer to a subtraction problem

 

9.  Product-  answer to a multiplication problem

 

10.  Quotient-  answer to a division problem

 

11.  Digits- symbols used to write numbers

  

12.  Addends- numbers being added

 

13.  Divisor-  the number doing the dividing

 

14.  Dividend- the number being divided

 

15.  Operations-   addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division are examples of  mathematical operations

 

16.  Integers-  Whole numbers, their opposites, and zero (NO fractions or decimals)

 

17.  Coordinate plane or coordinate grid- a plane containing two perpendicular axes ( x and y) intersecting at a point called the origin (0,0)

 

18. x axis-  the horizontal axis

 

19. y axis- the vertical axis

 

20.  Quadrant- any quarter of a plane divided by an x and y axis

 

21.  Ordered Pair- a pair of numbers used to indicate a point on a coordinate plane

 

22.  Coordinates- the numbers used to locate a point on the plane-used to write the ordered pair

 

23. Origin- The point (0 , 0)

 

24.  Balance- the current amount in your checking account

 

25.  Deposit- to put money into your bank account

 

26.  Withdrawal- to take money out of your bank account

 

27.  Equation-  a mathematical sentence with an equal sign saying that both sides   of the equal sign have the same value  

 

28.  Evaluate/Solve- work it out to get an answer

 

29.  Solution- the answer to a problem

 

30.  Estimation-  an approximate answer
