PTSA MEETING MINUTES

January 23, 2012

                                          

Meeting opened at: 7:02   

Inspirational Message: Lauretta Lewis

Minutes: Kim Welsh (motion to waive: Suzanne)        

                                    (seconded: Lori Seibner )

Treasurer’s Report:  Opening Balance $ 30,363.89; Deposits $ 11,659.75; Disbursements $ 11,277.07 and Ending Balance $ 30,746.57

M.M.S. Principal’s Report: Thank you for the donation of board games to advisory; Midterms are next week; We participated in Scripts National Spelling Bee and National Geography Bee; January 19, was the 5/6 Grade Concert all Children sounded great; The kids had a great time at the Winter Wonderland Dance; High School counselors are coming into the school tomorrow to meet with the 8th grader and February 10th report card go home and Cyberbulling Cultural Arts program

H.S. Principal’s Report: Midterm week starts tomorrow, can find exam schedule on website; 2nd semester starts Monday; Middle School students are going to visit the High School and have High School students sign a contract to not text and drive, they are doing this for their Enrichment Protect. They will also be selling thumb bands to remind them not to text and drive; Career Advantage going to St. Joseph Hospital; Peer leader training coming up; Feb 1 is the Senior Fashion Show; High School participated in “The Challenge” and won against Oyster Bay will be going on to the next level.

 

Committee Reports:

 

Cookie Dough Sale: PTSA will be doing a Cookie Dough Fundraiser in February

Cultural Arts: “Virtual Me” will be on February 2nd

Harlem Wizards: Volunteer Sheet and we have tickets

Holiday Gift Basket: done, donated Stop & Shop GC to 6 families in the district

Hospitality: Thank You Eileen Schroeder                         

Membership: currently have 786 members    

Post Prom: so far have $830 in parent donation, selling Flip Flops and Slides, also doing the Lottery for the month of February

Reflections: It is done and no one went up to the next level. Awards will be presented in March.

Shared Decision MMS. Just discussed the Homework Hotline, teachers are encouraged to have more contact with parents HS: HS will be putting into place a demerit policy. No student or parent issues at this particular meeting

Substance Abuse Coalition: no meeting

Website:  updated regularly

Wellness: MS to educate kids on food allergies, slushy machine are very popular and should be for after they eat their lunch. Also discussed that parents should refrain from smoking on school property during sporting events.

M.M.S. Principal’s Report: Very informative Parent University. The Halloween Social was good. Sportsnight and end of 1st marking period is Nov. 10, 2011

M.M.S. Teacher’s Rep. Report: Ms. Vasco- National Honor Society did the Walk for Diabetes; SADD Club is collecting coats and unused McDonald toys

H.S. Principal’s Report: Quebec trip was a success. A forensic dog came into the school; 120 Jrs visited CW Post; a group of students went to NYC to participate in the “Challenge”

SEPTA Report:  Debbie Jablonowski

Library Report: Friends of the Library Book Sale Nov. 19, 2011. Newsletter will be out soon. We have museum passes. Video game tournaments for grades 6-12. Check out website for details.

Blanket Fundraiser: 10 to 12 Blankets still available

Bulldog Clothing: Copies of winter sale is on table. Will be in before the holidays

Calendar Fundraiser: Still have them. Will put them in the teachers mailboxes

Entertainment Book Fundraiser: 186 sold in MS & 21 sold in HS. About 100 books outstanding in the MS

First Aid Kit Fundraiser: Been slow. Orders due friday 

Cultural Arts: They meet with Mr Gibbons and started the process

Harlem Wizards: Volunteer Sheet

Historian – passed around pictures

Holiday Gift Basket: spoke to Mrs Pitzer to get how many families are in need

Hospitality: Thank You Eileen Schroeder                                  

Parent Directory: Ann Harris –went out via email – anyone not receive or have changes?

Pictures: Nov 15th MMS Retake Day, HS Retake Date Nov 9th

Post Prom: 2nd meeting had 26 people and they have raised $600 so far

Shared Decision  MMS.: nothing  HS: Students requested that a Spring Pep Rally be scheduled because of the disappointment over the Homecoming weekend sequence of events. A parent brought forth two articles form a local paper that she believed had relevance to our district. One was about the need to provide healthy snack options in vending machines and the other about the positive uses of smart phones in the classroom.
