Computer Lab Information and Rules
Use of Hillsboro High School computers requires the acceptance of certain rules and regulations. Several of these rules are in place because of federal law CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act). The first requirement is that all users read and agree to guidelines put forth in the Computer Usage Agreement (CUA). After a signed copy of this is on file with the LMC each school year, students are allowed to set up usernames and passwords. Passwords are kept confidential and known only to the students. A copy of these are not kept on file in the LMC. Hillsboro High School discipline code rules also apply to usage. Students are reminded that computer use is for educational purposes. Students will sign in on the computer sign in sheet for the computer they will be using or will be asked to leave the lab for the remainder of the period.
PHASE I RULES 1. Students are NOT to access porn, hate or other sites that are considered unacceptable. 2. Students are to remember that the computers are NOT their personal possessions and therefore should NOT change anything on the desktop. That includes but is not limited to moving icons, changing wallpaper, and deleting icons or programs. 3. Students are NOT allowed to purchase any items via the Internet through the school computers. 4. Students are NOT allowed to download programs from the Internet. 5. Students are NOT allowed to access or alter another student’s work in any manner. 6. Students are NOT allowed to share their username/password with another student nor are they allowed to knowingly use another username/password to logon. CONSEQUENCES 1st OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for nine (9) weeks. 2nd OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for eighteen (18) weeks. 3rd OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for 365 days. 4th OFFENSE: Principal’s discretion.
PHASE II RULES 1. Students are allowed access to e-mail or web logs (blogs) before school, after school and during lunch. No other access of e-mail or blogs is allowed. 2. Students are NOT allowed to play games at any time. 3. Students are NOT to enter chat rooms at any time. CONSEQUENCES 1st OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for one (1) week. 2nd OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for two (2) weeks. 3rd OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for three (3) weeks. 4th OFFENSE: Principal’s discretion
PHASE III RULES: 1. Students will logon and logoff correctly using personal username/password exclusively. CONSEQUENCES 1st OFFENSE: Written WARNING on discipline form mailed to parents. 2nd OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for one (1) week 3rd OFFENSE: Student will be denied access to computers throughout the building for two (2) weeks. 4th OFFENSE: Principal’s discretion
