                                          Mrs. Coon’s Kindergarten News

                                               Week of February 1, 2010

 Happy Catholic School’s Week!

We have had a busy and fun filled week.  We started our week with Mass celebrated by Father Tanck. The entire Christ the King School family was there including our preschool friends.  We celebrated all that we are good at, the gifts God has given us to share to make our world a better place, our Dividends for Life. On Tuesday, our 6th grade prayer partners joined us in our classroom to read. We love sharing time with them. We also welcomed many visitors to our school in hopes that they will see all that we love about our school and become part of it next year.  Wednesday was Spirit Day!!  Purple and gold was seen throughout the school to show our school spirit.  Thursday brought many diverse professionals to Christ the King to share what they do.  Ask your child to tell you about the different professions they learned about, were any potential careers found? "Soup"er Bowl, Dress Down Day,today(Friday),we brought a can of soup in and dressed in our favorite team colors. Soup was separated by which team each thought would win the Super Bowl, very appropriately,it looked like the Saints was the school favorite.  We also ended the week with our youngest and oldest friends.  We started the morning playing color Bingo with our preschool friends and ended the morning playing games with our 6th grade friends, our prayer partners.

Reading, Writing, Arithmetic and more:

Reading—I briefly introduced our new book See How We Grow by Katacha Diaz. It will be carried over to next week as well.  We continue to review nouns, verbs, plural verbs, and adjectives on a daily basis.  As well as rhyming words and sight words daily.  We are blending sounds to read words in our decodable books and we are trying to incorporate more frequent journal writing.

Math—We continue our work on recognizing and writing numbers 15-20 and using 10 frames for quick counting.

Science—We are finishing our unit on the Solar System.  The children have enjoyed the many books we have read about planets, stars and space.

Art—With all the cloudy days we’ve had, our heart people hanging from our classroom lights make our room “love”ly and bright.  Making our heart people improved our fine motor skills; cutting, painting and folding.

Reminder

Please remember to send in items for our celebration of 100 days of school. (A note was sent home asking each family to send in a specific item.) We are continuing to collect money for  Haiti. Thank you for all your generous donations thus far.

Keep working on the Valentine cards  for our party next Friday.  Thank you!

Have a great weekend!  Hoping the weather forecasters are right and no snowstorm here.
