6th Grade News March 15-18 Our last full week before Spring Break! We have been so impressed with the group final projects for Uglies! What talented children we have at SMS! This week we will be testing unit 6 in math, performing a lab in science, presenting a final project, and reading a wonderful story about a loyal dog! We have Spirit Groups on Wednesday and Mr. Kent's Benefit is on Saturday, March 20 from 4:30-7:30. Please come and have a wonderful spaghetti dinner! Language Arts: We will be reading "Lob's Girl" from the big brown language arts book this week. Students are encouraged to bring in photos of favorite family pets to go along with this wonderful story. Skills include: foreshadowing, map skills, and comparing and contrasting. Final group projects for Uglies will be presented on Thursday, March 18th. Math: This week finds us working with inequalities, solving equations, and reviewing for our unit 6 test on Friday, March 19th. Religion: We will memorize Psalm 51: 16-20. This Psalm was suggested by Father McGrath as another Act of Contrition to use during Lent. We will also continue our Lenten reflections. Social: We will continue with MN mapping skills that will come home on Monday and will be due on Thursday. Science: Chapter 4, Light, Color, and Sound will be our unit! We will be discovering how light behaves with readings and a lab this week. Students need a disposable water bottle with a cap and a flashlight forThursday! Spelling: Unit 21 spelling words this week! Skills we will work on include: Greek/Latin roots. Please have your child study the words listed on the right side of their planner. We test these words each Friday! If you are a 6th grader reading this...write the equation 5X + 1 = 26 on a piece of paper, solve it, add your name to the top, and turn into the basket by 8:10am on Monday. Reminders: -
