G.A.T.E. Gifted and Talented Education
Junior High (7-8) and High School (9-12)

By the time they reach Junior High and High School, most of the Hillsboro GATE students have been in the GATE program for awhile.  In the case of new or transfer students to the district, though, our standards are not familiar and may be different than the program they are used to, which is why I've included them below.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY for G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Education)

Prerequisites include meeting three of the four criteria for eligibility into this class:

1.  A student must score in the 95th percentile or higher in three subject
areas on a given achievement test or obtain a composite score in the
    95th percentile.

2.  A student must possess an I.Q. of 130 or higher

3.  A student must receive a positive recommendation from a current
     teacher.

4.  A student must receive an acceptable score on a creativity test.

Beginning in the 7th grade and continuing until their graduation, students are not required to actively be taking a GATE class to be considered in the GATE program.  Regardless of their class schedule, all GATE students are eligible for all GATE programs and assistance any time they wish--all you have to do is ask!
