Spring Newsletter
Dear Parents,
The school year is flying by! Here is what we have been and what we will be learning:
Math: During April and May, we will be learning about place value up to the thousands place, number relationships, three digit addition and subtraction, and fractions. In June, we will be learning about two and three dimensional shapes and spatial sense (congruence, symmetry, perimeter, and area). We will also continue to take timed addition and subtraction tests in order to prepare for third grade.
Social Studies: We will continue to learn about our country’s history, and will be learning about famous Americans, historic places in our country, and holidays.
Science: We have been learning all about the Solar System! The children are very excited about their solar system projects. We will be learning about plants and the human body during May and June. During our health unit, we learn how our body works, nutrition, and how to stay healthy.
Religion: The children did a wonderful job on their Last Supper projects and at the March school mass! All of the children have been practicing and learning about receiving the Eucharist for their First Holy Communion. The children are extremely excited! During May, we will be participating in the crowing of Mary. More information will follow shortly.
Phonics/Spelling: We have been reviewing vowel combinations, consonant blends, r-controlled vowels, and word endings. The children have been doing well on their spelling tests. Please make sure that your child is spelling the spelling words correctly in their homework and that they are writing neatly. There will be another unit test (25 words out of 50 picked) in the beginning of May. Please start studying the words. The list is attached.
Reading: We are finishing up unit 5 in reading and will start out last unit for the year! Reading tests will continue to be on Thursdays. Please continue to have your child read at home each night.
Writing: We have been writing letters to our pen pals, my grandmother, and journal responses. I am going to have students for homework start answering the reading questions from the story for the week in complete sentences. This will start shortly. We will continue to work on writing using correct punctuation and grammar.
