HERE ARE SOME ADDITIONAL OUTREACH MINISTRY AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUAL - OR GROUPS OF - OLM STUDENTS*: 1. ABVI-GOODWILL - a not-for-profit organization that offers programs and services to people who are blind or visually impaired. ABVI-Goodwill offers lots of volunteer opportunities for volunteers - including students. Available volunteer opportunities include: driving; grocery shopping; reading mail and paperwork in the home or office; assisting in area Goodwill retail locations; and assisting with various agency events throughout the year. ADVENT HOUSE - an outreach ministry of Perinton Ecumenical Ministries, Inc., Advent House is a non-profit 2-bed comfort care home, providing end-of-life care for the terminally ill. Located in Fairport, Advent House is staffed by volunteers who work 4 hour shifts caring for the residents and their families. Volunteers provide all care for the individuals, helping with physical needs and emotional support. Training and support of volunteers is provided. If you are a senior in high school and can commit to a 4 hour shift at least once a month, contact Carolyn Ruffing at 223-6112 or Mrs. Barbero at Mercy (she volunteers there every week.) And check out the website too at: www.theadventhouse.org. 3. CAMP GOOD DAYS AND SPECIAL TIMES - a not-for-profit corporation that provides a camping experience and much more for children with cancer. Offices are located in Mendon and the recreational facility is located on Keuka Lake. CATHOLIC FAMILY CENTER - a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving to all people, especially the poor and vulnerable, through a diversity of human services. (CCSI) - a not-for-profit organization that provides support to organizations in the behavioral health and human services fields. CCSI is looking for student volunteers to provide office help after school for 1-2 hours/day at its 1099 Jay Street, Building J location. CP ROCHESTER - a not-for-profit organization that provides programs and services to support people - of all ages - with physical and developmental disabilities. FAIRPORT BAPTIST HOMES CARING MINISTRIES - a not-for-profit organization, located on Nine Mile Point Road in Fairport, that provides residential and non-residential services to area residents, primarily seniors. FLOWER CITY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (FCHH) - FCHH is the Rochester affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, the nonprofit, ecumentical Christian housing ministry working globally to eliminate poverty housing.
FCHH builds year-round, Tuesday through Saturday - Saturdays are the most popular day, and often fill up weeks in advance. Individuals work 8:45 am to 4:00 pm (please, no half days). Volunteers are welcome to help at both construction and non-construction (i.e., ReStore) sites. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old. (Some restrictions apply to 16-17 year old volunteers and a Youth Permission Form must be signed by a parent.) FOODLINK - Foodlink, located at 936 Exchange Boulevard in Rochester, is a not-for-profit foodbank that serves a 10 county area in the Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. As a member of America's Second Harvest, Foodlink obtains and redistributes over 6 million of pounds of food annually to a network of over 550 programs. Foodlink operates a warehouse at 936 Exchange St. Rochester; it also operates Freshwise Farms, a hydroponic greenhouse, in Penfield. Volunteers are needed for/at both locations. Foodlink organizes special volunteer opportunities for high school students during school vacations. Individual or groups of students are welcome during the following times: Monday - Friday 9:00am - 12:00pm 1:00pm - 4:00pm 5:00pm - 8:00pm Saturday 9:00am - 12:00pm 1:30pm - 4:00pm Space may be limited so interested students should call ahead to reserve a spot. HERITAGE CHRISTIAN SERVICES - a not-for-profit organization that provides services and programs (respite, day, and residential) for children and adults with developmental disabilities. HOLY APOSTLE CHURCH - a "Passport" program partner again this year, Holy Apostle Church is located on Lyell Avenue in Rochester. Volunteers are needed to teach Religious Education. Classes are held on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm and run from now until mid-May (except for school holiday weekends) in the parish's Urban Center (located at 8 Austin St., Rochester). Class sizes are small (typically 7 students per class) and student volunteer/teachers would be assigned younger classes (i.e., primary grades). This would make a great volunteer opportunity for two OLM students to share. LIFETIME CARE - YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM - Lifetime Care provides hospice care for terminally ill individuals and their families - a comfort-oriented approach to care. Student volunteers are needed for Lifetime Care's "CompassionNet" program. "CompassionNet" is a program for families with children who have a life-threatening illness. Volunteers can serve as friends or mentors; provide babysitting; or just hang out with the children and their siblings. Students must be at least 14 years old and volunteer training is provided. JOHN'S HOME - a not-for-profit senior living community located at 150 Highland Avenue in Rochester that offers progressive long-term care for aging adults. Volunteers are needed in the following area: - Ice Cream Shop - assist residents and their guests. Evenings and/or week-ends;
- Gift Shop - assist visitors. Evenings and/or week-ends;
- Friendly Visitor - visit with residents. After school and/or week-ends;
- Special Events - holiday parties and/or meals, as scheduled; and
- Bingo or other Recreation Program activities - after school and/or week-ends.

SAINT'S PLACE - a joint ministry of St. Louis Church and Catholic Family Center, Saint's Place helps refugees from war-torn areas of the world resettle in the Rochester area. Saint's Place serves the needs of refugees through its three programs: refugee resettlement (providing household items and clothing); tutoring; and child care. Student volunteers are needed to help with: - Sorting clothing donations - Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm on the campus St. Louis Church (in the white house located at 46 S. Main St., Pittsford)
- Helping in the clothing closet - Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 9:30 am to noon on the campus of St. John of Rochester Church (in the former school, located at 10 Wickford Way, Fairport)

SISTERS OF MERCY MOTHERHOUSE - residence for retired Sisters of Mercy and others. Volunteers are needed to spend time with retired sisters - e.g., playing games, visiting, doing activities, etc. Volunteers are especially needed in mid-afternoon during nice weather to take wheelchair-bound sisters outside in/around the Mercy campus. 17. SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEW YORK UPSTATE REGION - a not-for-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Volunteers are needed to help provide athletes with competitions as well as to help with fundraisers. Throughout the year, there are lots of other opportunities to volunteer at Special Olympics sporting events. During November, Special Olympics New York is looking for volunteers to help with the Region North Senior Bowling competition on Saturday, November 21st at Clover Lanes (2750 Monroe Avenue, Rochester). Help is needed during three sessions that day, as follows: - Session I - 7:45 am to 11:00 am - Session II - 10:45 am to 2:00 pm - Session III - 1:45 pm to 5:00 pm Volunteers will help with set-up, serve as lane chaperones, help with awards presentions, and/or just be "fans in the stands".
