Notes for This Week (Week of 11/23)-From Mrs. Ripberger This is a short week. We have school on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday is our all school mass. We will also receive the awesome gift of reconciliation on Tuesday. At this time of thanksgiving and harvest, I am grateful for this class, the opportunity to teach them, and for their families who prepare them each day to learn. I wish each of you and your families a blessed Thanksgiving. I am reminded that while the harvest is being gathered for many, we are still planting the seeds with our teaching and learning. PLEASE CHECK THE STUDENT PLANNERS. Let's continue working with the students to use the planners effectively. They should write down what we do in class and check it off if they've done it and turned it in. There is time each day for the students to receive one-to-one assistance with assignments. If they do not finish their work at school, they should finish it for homework. Please encourage your student to use this valuable tool in the learning process. We are working step by step to more educational independence and responsibility. KEY STUDY SKILLS: Putting your name on your paper and turning in completed work on time. - Students who are not turning in their work are unable to participate fully and gain all that is being offered instructionally.
- This practice is taking time away from our engaged learning time, as we are waiting for them to locate their papers, looking for missing assignments, and are redistributing additional copies of the work that has already been completed by most of the class.
- As stewards of our resources- including time and paper, we would like to work on this skill as it will impact every student in the class allowing them to reach their highest potential. Please know we are doing everything at school to facilitate this process.
DONATIONS NEEDED: Canned Food Drive: Our November Service Project is the Canned Food Drive. At this time of the year, with our current economy, this is a very difficult situation for many families. If you are able to send in a can or two, that would be most appreciated. The classes are very excited to watch the graph show which grades are bringing in the cans and helping others. Thank you to all of you who have been able to donate. Kleenex: Our supply of Kleenex boxes is shrinking. If you are able to send in a box or two, that would be very helpful. Games/Cards for Indoor Recess: With the onset of cooler weather, we may have more indoor recess. We have a few games, but with increased indoor recess frequency, it would be great to have a larger variety for the students to select a game. If you are cleaning out those closets and find a game or deck of cards that you'd like to donate or loan, we would be most appreciative. Thank you to the families/students who have donated/loaned a game to the classroom. Please feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, ideas, etc at lripberger@saintbarnabasparish.org Reading: We will use our Leveled Readers and present information to the class using graphic organizers. We are reading for a purpose. Math: We will review the skills of multiplication and division, problem solving using these operations, review the order of operations, and increase our multiplication math fact speed through practice. Writing: We will review use of possessive nouns. Spelling: No list this week. Religion: We will have a readers theatre of some of the scriptures we've discussed. The students have been very excited about using the Bible as a basis for our discussions in religion. If your child has a Bible that you feel comfortable sending to school, he/she may bring that Bible. I am thrilled with the excitement and great questions the students have about our Faith. Social Studies: We will introduce Statehood in Chapter 5. Science: We will start Chapter 9 Erosion. Other Information: Our next book and movie club book will be The Witches by Roald Dahl. Permission Slips came home last week. We will watch the movie on Friday, December 4th. Mrs. Lecher will come back for this event. Keep working on your AR reading logs! A special reward will be given the the students who answer this questions correctly. Question: In what month do the Ripberger boys celebrate their birthdays? Answer: March
