Mrs. Lecher's 4th Grade Class What We're Doing This Week (Week of 11/9)-From Mrs. Ripberger PLEASE CHECK THE STUDENT PLANNERS. I will update the test schedule through their planners. I will not test until I am sure the students feel comfortable and are fully prepared. They are doing wonderful in reading for a purpose, looking for cause and effect, being able to restate what they've learned, and asking higher order thinking skill questions. I am pleased with their hard work. Many of the students have worked ahead because they are engaged in the topic. Our SS test has been moved to Monday. Our Science test will be Wednesday. The students are still very excited and adjusting to the transitions. Although I am trying to keep things as routine as possible, naturally some things are different. We are working on personal responsibility for our work and organizational skills. I will continue to help the students with these skills. Please feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, ideas, etc at lripberger@saintbarnabasparish.org Reading: This week we will be reading the story, Stealing Home. Reading and Vocabulary Test planned for Thur. The students should be well prepared through classwork. Our focus skill is compare and contrast. Reading homework- Reading Log. Thursday- Study your spelling words with your flashcards or another way that works for you. (Turn in your flashcards). Religion: We will begin Chapter 3 in our Religion Books- Sacred Scripture. The students have been very excited about using the Bible as a basis for our discussions in religion. If your child has a Bible that you feel comfortable sending to school, he/she may bring that Bible. I am thrilled with the excitement and great questions the students have about our Faith. Homework- Saint Projects Due Wednesday, November 11. Presentations will be on Thursday and Friday. The students are already practicing talking about saints in an interesting way. As a class, we are doing an inquiry on a particular saint. The students are looking for the Saint who hid the Blessed Sacrament in his cloak and was beaten to death. When they uncovered his body, the Blessed Sacrament was gone. He lived in the 3rd or 4th century. His feast day is Aug. 15th. His names starts with one of these letters, R, S, T, V. He is the Patron Saint of First Communicants. They are very interested in who this might be. Our class mass is November 18th. We will practice for our mass and discuss the various ministries, parts of the mass, and theme of the readings. Please feel free to join us for this very special morning. Social Studies: Test Monday on Chapter 4. They are well prepared. We reviewed on Friday. I was very comfortable with their knowledge. Some of the students wanted to take home their study guide and book to review more. We will work on our Indiana Project books this week. Science: We will review Chapter 8 on Rocks and Minerals. The test is scheduled for Wed. The students should be well prepared through our classwork and class review. Some of the students have asked if they can take their books home to review. Other Information: Our next book and movie club book will be The Witches by Roald Dahl. I will send home information from Mrs. Lecher this week. We will watch the movie on Friday, December 4th.
