What We're Doing This Week (Week of 11/17): *I apologize that the information on the site was not accurate earlier this week. For some reason, all the changes that I made did not save correctly.* Reading: We will be finishing our mystery stories before Thanksgiving Break. Today students received new vocabulary words specific to their book. This week we will talk about how our perceptions of characters change as we find out new information about them. We will also practice writing good discussion questions for the group and picking out interesting passages to share when we discuss the story as a group. Writing: We will continue drafting and revising our mystery stories this week. On Monday we will discuss ways to tell about the characters by describing their actions instead of just stating facts about them. We will also be looking at our sentence fluency and working on combining short sentences so there is a combination of both long and short sentences. Math: Please continue practicing math facts at home. I am adding some math fact games to the links section of the webpage. We are learning how to multiply numbers up to 4 digits by one digit (ex: 4,785 x 5). We will finish Chapter 10 and have a test on Tuesday the 26th. Science: Students' assessment over Chapter 9 will be due on Wednesday. This is their "Letter to a Rock" which explains the major concepts that we have learned. We will then start studying different types of rocks and how they formed in Chapter 8 in science. We will also have a science test on Tuesday the 26th to finish before Thanksgiving Break. Religion: Last week students learned the social skill of giving and receiving compliments. Their worksheet about trying it at home is due this Friday. We will be practicing for our class mass on Wednesday. We will also be talking about how we can show gratitude for the gifts that God gives us. The next book for our book and movie club will be The Indian in the Cupboard. The movie night is December 12th after school. Students are bringing home a book order on Monday night. It will be due Tuesday, November 26th.
