IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!
THE MYSTICAL ARTS TOUR OF TIBET RETURNS TO THE CROW COLLECTION OF ASIAN ART April 22nd, 2012! even though the monks were just here and we had a great "ode to drive by press event" now called "BTW MANDALA PRESS" we are preparing for the spring event! NOTICE TO ALL PRINTMAKERS this 1st six weeks of the 2011-12 year we are creating our prayer flags ahead of schedule. size of plate 6"x 6" linoleum or 1/4" mdf board ($.40 if you cannot get it on your own) design needs to be a positive statement . you are being empowered to send a blessing to the world. students will print an edition of 5 on 8"x 8" paper first and then print 5-6 on each of the five colors on fabric totaling an edition of 25. All prints are do Sept. 30th, 2011 materials needed for the class: roll of paper towels and soap every six weeks. other suggested materials are mineral spirits, baby oil, green solve, mr clean cleaning liquid,pine sol, denatured alcohol, simple orange hand cleaner or goop, Q-tips, old tooth brushes, towels, sheets, baby food jars. students are expected to have their own cutting tools and rubber gloves! places where to buy tools: paper arts, woodcrafters, micheals, on line. research: goya the printmaker... find 3 prints from different portfolios and write why you like the prints. then come up with an issue and based on your favorite print create three thumbnail sketches (3" x 5") portraying that issue in odee to goya style. linear and no value. you must also bring in some kind of research about your issue, a magazine, website info, newspaper etc. it should be "close to your heart, something you feel strongly about and a world vs personal issue. these drawings will be used for the etchings we will do next and we will have the opportunity to see actual goya prints at the meadows foundation ! we will be visiting the print room and have access to the nearly 400 Goya prints that they own. Also students need to go to the blog and reseach on crownpoint site their etching info.. a cd of technical information by their mater printers will be available to watch on the classroom computer. ( these intial idea sketches are do the week of 19th-23rd.) after completing prayer flags students will continue with goya etchings however more advanced printmakers will be working on more advanced assignments and printmaking problems. 4th period advanced printmakers will start in on large lino reduction/puzzle prints based on picassos first lino cuts and the work by holly roberts. we will also have the opportunity to see original linocuts at the meadows museum. all students need to be doing internet research and specific planning drawings. students will work with me on an individual basis. A few other advanced printmakers will begin working on multi-plate etchings based on oscar gillespie's work and should be influenced again by goya as an art historical reference. check out the blog for some neat info and sites that will help.
