Theme 3 - Around Town

Students must memorize the definitions of vocabulary words and be able to use them in a sentence.  Click on the link below to practice vocabulary words.

 Chinatown               

1. apartment:  a room or group of rooms to live in

2. delivery:  used to carry or take something to a place or to a person

3. handcarts:  small wagons, usually with two wheels, that are pulled or pushed by hand

4. restaurant:  a place where people go to eat meals

5. market:  a place or store where food and other goods are sold

6. celebrations: activities carried out to honor a special day or a special event

 Trip to the Firehouse

1.  chief:  a leader of a group

2.  firefighters:  people who work at putting out fires

3.  gear:  equipment used to do certain things

4.  dispatch:  to send a message with speed

5.  emergencies:  things that happen without warning and call for a quick response

6.  examine:  to look over carefully

 Big Bushy Mustache

1.  bushy:  fluffy or thick like a bush

2.  costume:  a set of special clothes

3.  disguise:  a costume or make-up someone wears so no one will know them

4.  handsome:  good looking

5.  mustache:  a thick hair that grows above a man's lip

6.  sarape:  a colorful blanket people in Mexico sometimes wear over their shoulders

 Jamaica Louise James

1.  booth:  a small room or compartment, usually with an opening

2.  plaque:  a flat plate or slab with words and decorations that is displayed on a wall

3.  station:  a stopping place

4.  subway:  an underground train

5.  token:  a piece of metal, like a coin, used to get into certain places
