Trout in the Classroom Release at Lytle Creek, CA Each year Mrs. Taylor receives approximately 100 trout eggs from the Department of Fish and Game to raise in the classroom. With the help of the Deep Creek Fly Fishers Club, our 2nd graders are able to raise the trout from eggs to fry and release them back into the wild at Lytle Creek. Over the course of approximately 6-10 weeks, students observe the trout as "eyed eggs", alevin, and fry. They learn observation skills, life cycle of the trout, food chain, and environmental needs of the trout. This program culminated in students, families, and friends gathering at Lytle Creek to release their fry. The children also learned about bugs, fly rod casting, and were able to enjoy a refreshing swim in the creek and a picnic lunch.
