SOCIAL STUDIES

 

Our school curriculum for Social Studies is Scott Foresman.  The children will have a take-home reading newspaper that they will be sharing with you.  Topics are integrated with our Language Arts Themes and National and State Holidays.  You may view 2nd grade Social Standards by following the link:  http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/histsocscistnd.pdf

Unit 1:  Long Ago and Yesterday  (Integrated with Language Arts / Theme 5)

           Lesson 1:  How do we learn family history?

           Lesson 2:  How is life different today?   

           Lesson 3:  How can we put events in order?

SPECIAL PROJECT:  INDIVIDUAL TIMELINE & FAMILY TREE

**Unit 2:  Map Skills  (Integrated with Language Arts / Theme 2)

           Lesson 1:  How can we locate places?

           Lesson 2:  What does a map show?

           Lesson 3:  Where did my family come from?

           Lesson 4:  How do people use land?

SPECIAL PROJECT:   NEIGHBORHOOD MAP

Unit 3:  Our Government (Sept. 17th - Constitution Day)

            Lesson 1:  What do governments do? 

          Lesson 2:  How do people solve problems?

CLASSROOM PROJECT

Unit 4:  Producers and Consumers  (Integrated with Language Arts / Theme 1)

           Lesson 1:  How do people grow and use food?

           Lesson 2:  Who are buyers and sellers?

           Lesson 3:  How do people use resources? 

SPECIAL PROJECT:  CALIFORNIA DAIRY COUNCIL UNIT ON HEALTH EATING
