Studying for classes is not just doing homework. Many students believe that when they have finished doing an assignment or when the class period is over they too are finished. Parents often get frustrated by the statement of their child, "I dont' have any homework, the teacher doesn't give us homework." Another famous statement is, "I finished it all in school so I don't have any. or I did it in Mrs. Shober's class." Guess what, your child does have homework and no they did not get it done in Mrs. Shober's or any other special ed. teacher's class. To help at home try to do the following: - Check the student planner to see what is written down. There should be something written everyday. Even if the assignment is completed, it should be written down and checked off.
- Make sure your child writes down due dates and quiz/test dates
- Check over their homework to make sure it is completely finished.
- Do work at a kitchen table or desk they can work at. (In front of the TV or in bed is not a good place).
- Look over notes every night and scan over text material.
- Before a test quiz your student on the material.
