McMullen's Messenger Week of November 2, 2009 Monday - As we began the first week in November, we will continue to read about working together. Our story this week is about Ronald Morgan. He is not good at playing baseball. He is great at having team spirit. He learns how to play baseball, with his dad's help, and everyone on his team needs him to cheer for the team! In math we are learning how to regroup (carry) using addition facts. The students caught on very quickly. We must remember to ALWAYS START IN THE ONES AT THE TOP! We will only place one number in the ones space and carry the tens number of the answer to the top of the tens space. We had guidance with Mrs. Steele this afternoon. Tuesday - In Music class this afternoon, we practiced My Country Tis Of Thee. We sing it every day during opening exercises. We continue to work on two digit addition with regrouping. It gets easier every minute. We are also learning about Native Americans during the entire month on November. We learned about the Eastern Woodland Indians. They used all of the things that they found in the forest and hunted. They lived in longhouses and the clan mother was in charge. Ask your child to tell you at least eight different things that they learned about these native americans. Wednesday - We did a great painting activity in Art class today. We used all the skills that we learned about color to make a leaf print. Thursday - Today we had physical education class and we also had a fire drill. We wrote about all of the things that we learned about the woodland indians and we also began to learn many things about the indians of the plains. The indians of the plains did not have many trees to use and they hunted mostly buffalo. They used every part of the buffalo for something and waisted nothing. Ask your child what they used for rope and string. Friday - Mr. Weaber taught us how to make a web on the computer. We filled in the web with important facts about ourselves. We had our usual spelling test and reading test. We completed our fall folders and made new November folders which will hold many new activities for the month. Next Friday will be Pajamas, Slippers, and Stuffed Animal Day. Children can wear suitable night wear. Please have your child wear shoes to school and have them change into slippers once they arrive. Only on this special day, will the children be allowed to bring their favorite stuffed animal to carry with them during school activities. Lucky Book orders are due on November 13th. Early dismissal begins on November 19th. Conferences begin at 1:15 and continue through November 24th with early dismissal each day. Thanksgiving vacation begins on November 25. School reopens on Tuesday, December 1st. Have a great weekend.
