McMullen's Messenger Weeks of November 16 and 23, 2009 Monday - This week we will continue working on the theme of working together. Our story is titled The Bremen Town Musicians. They work together to fumble the robbers. We will read it as a play tomorrow. Everyone will have a part. Our new spelling words will help us to practice turning nouns from singular to plural. We will just add the letter S. If the word ends with a CH, SH, S, or X, we will add ES. If the noun ends in a Y without a vowel in front of that Y, we will change the Y to an I and then add ES. Tuesday - We learned about the Pueblo Indians. They lived in pueblos and had to fight against the Apache tribe. We will write ten facts about what we learned. We completed projects for our Thanksgiving Lunch. We will wear our Plains Indians vests and bracelets during lunch on Thursday. Wednesday - Today we practiced making a web about the Native Americans in the computer lab. Webs can help us organize information so that we can write many facts quickly. Mrs. Steele was here for our program Too Good For Drugs. We talked about how we pick our friends and what makes a good friend. We are working on adding with two digits and regrouping. Most students are doing very well! We are making flash cards for subtraction. The second marking period will focus on knowing 10 subtraction facts in one minute and 30 facts in three minutes. Thursday - We will have early dismissal today and tomorrow at 1:15 for conferences. We will try to squeeze in so much into this short time each day. We will also learn about the Native American Tribes that live in the northwest and far northwest of our country. They lived by hunting whales and sea creatures. They had so much wood to use because of many very large trees that cover the land near the ocean. Friday - We will wrap up the week by reading the story The Bremen Town Musicians one last time. We will have our spelling and reading tests and complete our review of carrying in math. We will move onto subtraction facts. Practice IS needed! Monday and Tuesday - We will read a great story titled A Turkey For Thanksgiving. Ask your child what happened to this turkey. It has an unexpected ending! We will review many things that we have learned this year so far. Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!
