Drawing I Overview

Drawing I (Art II) This year students can expect to experience the following: -
Interpret visual parallels between the structures of natural & man-made environments. Observe that an orange (natural) is much like a ball (man-made); a cave opening is much like an arched entry; the way we feel about the curved lines in an abstract work of art has been influenced by the role that similar curved lines play in nature. Take water for example: When it moves in a gentle flow, the "lines" of the current are subtle and wavy. Cool colors are found in nature and suggest peaceful, restful states. These states can be suggested in abstract artwork simply by using such colors along with lines that suggest or support the same state. -
Explore visual themes in support of the formation of multiple solutions in personal artworks. A personal theme might develope from an interest, idea or academic observation. It could be conceptual, formal or expressive. This focussed exploration would lend itself to a body of work called a series, or even whole phases of an artist's career. -
Apply design skills for commercial function. Looks like group &/or individual brainstorming/sketching visual solutions to client requests or needs. Think logos, billboards, web design, wallpaper, etc.
