Long term problems 2008/2009 http://www.odysseyofthemind.com/materials/2009problems.php We will begin creating teams, based on student choice of problem, in October. We are in need of coaches for teams! Previous coaches have said, "This was so rewarding for me and my son/daughter-I am so glad I did it!" This year’s Odyssey of the Mind Coaches Training for Regions 4 and 7 will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Questar III Central Office, 10 Empire State Blvd., Castleton 12033. This training is essential for all new coaches and helpful for everyone. Email me to coach a team this year! 2008 EGCSD Odyssey of the Mind team makes history by earning an invitation to the World Finals! Winning gold at regionals was exciting, but the Green Meadow team understood there was more work to be done. They brainstormed and retooled elements of their style and story to make the program stronger--and stronger it was! Their balza wood structure in the TEE-Structure long-term problem, division one, held 431 lbs! With a new story line and instrumental addition, it was a powerful program, earning second place, and an invitation to the University of Maryland, College Park, to compete against teams from all over the world at the end of May. Congratulations go out to coaches Gary Kortz and Vicki Brock for bringing together a very diverse team. In fact, diversity may have been their strength. The team members are: Hunter Kortz, 4th grader from Green Meadow Tommy O'Neill, 4th grader from DPS Elliot Brock, 4th grader from DPS Erika Fiacco, 5th grader from Red Mill Helena Massiello, 5th grader from Genet Morgan Minkler, 5th grader from Bell Top and Megan Lindemann, 5th grader from Genet. As you can see, every elementary school in the district can share in the team's success.
