District-Wide Enrichment Rocks!
|
November 2008 OotM teams have been established (as of 11/3). Coaches will be contacting you regarding meeting times! Progress reports are sent home each trimester for enrichment students, the first one is being sent home on 11/19. Math Olympiad begins this month. The first contest is the week of 11/17. The East Greenbush Central School District seeks to develop the talent potentials of young people by providing enrichment opportunities, resources and services to build the strengths of our students. Students who demonstrate behaviors and advanced level abilities typically associated with superior performance are identified as part of an “Academic Talent Pool”. To qualify for the academic talent pool, the district uses the Home and School Rating Scales & the K-BIT II Cognitive Abilities Test. The Home or School Rating Scale scores need to have at least 4 out of the 7 rating categories (general intellectual ability, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, creativity and leadership) with a score of 90% or higher for either the Home or School Rating Scale to qualify for the Academic Talent Pool. Also, the K-BIT II is recorded in three categories: verbal ability, non-verbal ability, and composite. To meet the criteria, 2 of the 3 scores need to be at the 90th or above percentile. The ATP students will be involved in a 90 minute “pull-out” enrichment program at their school, once per week. The expectation is that students will complete regular classroom assignments to meet or exceed classroom teacher expectations. The students will have the opportunity to work with other ATP students on activities that promote collaborative learning, self-selected projects, extensions of classroom topics, Odyssey of the Mind, Math or Science Olympiad, and other activities that promote creative thinking and problem solving.
