Valentine Party We will celebrate the day on 2/14 with a card exchange. Please be sure your student has a card for each person in our room. We have a total of 14, with 3 boys and 11 girls. Junior Achievement On Tuesday, January 31 our six week Junior Achievement course begins. Mr. Michael Carnahan (Mr. Mike) is our instructor, and he will visit with the students for about 45 minutes each Tuesday. This year's focus is entrepreneurship, resources used in business, and the global nature of business. I know the students will enjoy woking with Mr. Mike! Amercian Reolution Project The students have recieved instructions to complete a project on a man or woman important during the Revolution. They have a choice regarding who they research and how they share what they have learned. The project is due on February 14. Please refer to the sheet in their Social Studies folder for further information. Curriculum Up-date Religion We will discuss the Apostles' Creed as a statement of the important beliefs and values of the Cathiolic Church. The students will write their own personal creeds as well. Our role model for this topic will be St. Lorenzo Ruiz of the Philippines. We will learn how he lived the truths of his faith under difficult circumstances. Science Our new topic will be the environment around us. We will learn about the materials that are cycled through the environment and the importance of keeping those cycles in balance. We will also discuss the members of a healthy ecosystem and how they interact. Students will learn about a variety of habitats. Social Studies The events of the American Revolution will be our area of study. We will learn about the writing of the Declaration of Independence, its consequences, and the main events of the war. ELA In writing we will continue to focus on the trait of Word Choice. In Reading we will work with the skills of cause and effect, using context clues, and identifying an author's purpose. In grammar we will practice the use of contractions and plural nouns.
