Due to slumping, the pectoralis minor muscle on the chest can become tight.  This tightness, incited during work at the computer, driving, or just living perpetuates the rounded-shoulder appearance.

Some believe that contracture in this muscle also prohibits proper lymphatic drainage from the anterior chest wall.

 

Pectoralis minor self massage:

Place your right thumb and right middle finger on the left sternoclavicular joint and the acromioclavicular joint respectively (the collarbone).  This demarcates the length of the left collarbone or clavicle.  Next, with the thumb of the right hand, place it in the middle of the left collar bone and extend your middle finger toward your left armpit.  This is the pathway of massage. Finally, with your left thumb press inward just below the halfway point of the clavicle determined earlier and press the thumb into muscle, twisting as you go, repeatedly proceeding with successive thumb pressures toward the armpit.  You will be massaging across the belly of the pectoralis minor.  It is common to hit some tender spots.

Repeat the process with the right pectoralis minor muscle.

An alternate stretch for these muscles is a corner press.  Find an internal corner, place your hands on each side of the corner and allow your trunk to relax between your contacts on the wall.  Hold for 5-10 seconds.
