Below are activities that you can do with your child to reinforce the content we are learning here at school:

Reading:

*Practice letters and sounds using flashcards.

*Point out letters on signs and labels and ask your child to give you the sound of that letter, and another word that begins with that letter.

*Practice sight words using flashcards.

*Write sentences using our sight words, and simple three letter words that your child can sound out.

*Rhyming !  Select a word and have your child give three words that rhyme with that word.

*Create funny names by using their name and using different beginning letters to rhyme with it...ex.  Eddie, Reddie, Feddie, Meddie....etc.

*Read, Read Read!  Children benefit from being read to, and also reading themselves.  You can partner read with your child.  You will read, and when you come to a word your child knows, allow them to read it!

Math:

Practice recognizing numbers by using flashcards.

Count items you see at home or while driving in the car.

See if your child can identify the coins in your pocket or purse.  Challenge them by telling them the next time they can identify all the coins, they can pick one to keep!

Practice counting by 5's, and 10's.

Countdown to blastoff! (the students love this!)

Create a scavenger hunt.  Have your child search for items that begin with a certain letter.  (Find a canned food with a "p" on it) You can also ask them to find a certain number of items.  (Find 6 q-tips).  The possibilities are endless!

*Hopefully some of these ideas help.  Be creative!  Making learning a game takes the stress out of homework!  Parent involvement has been shown to make a difference in a child's education.  I am fortunate to have so many caring parents/guardians for my students this year! Thank you!
