Our unit of study will focus on bats this week.  The children will add to their schema by listening to and reading non-fiction literature about these nocturnal animals.  They will label a diagram of a bat’s body and learn many facts about these nocturnal creatures.  Did you know that bat babies are called pups?  I will also be reading the fiction story Stellaluna.  This will be the jumping off story for starting our discussion about character traits.  Identifying character traits will allow the children to relate (make connections) to the characters and have a deeper understanding of the story.
