The overall purpose of PTA is to make every child’s potential
a reality by engaging and empowering families and
communities to advocate for all children.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the
Island Trees Council of PTAs Board at

As I sit at my computer trying to write the opening page of this site I am reminded of a quote I once found when I was previously Council Chaplain. It seems to capture my thoughts as well as the feelings of many of the other woman who volunteer their time and energy to PTA:

As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration.  Other people and other people’s ideas are often better than your own.  Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you and spend a lot of time with them.  It will change your life.” – Amy Poehler

The women who work so hard to bring good things to our Island Trees community and families are truly inspirational to me and others- they are also role models for our children. They embody the values that the PTA promotes. These values are so important to the well being of our community and raising our children to be decent and productive members of society. I feel we should be reminded of them not only in regard to the PTA, but in our daily lives-work, school, home and relationships. They are as follows:

PTA Values:
Collaboration: We work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to accomplish our agreed-upon goals.

Commitment: We are dedicated to promoting children’s health, well-being, and educational success through strong parent, family, and community involvement.

Accountability: We acknowledge our obligations. We deliver on our promises.

Respect: We value our colleagues and ourselves. We expect the same high quality of effort and thought from ourselves as we do from others.

inclusively: We invite the stranger and welcome the newcomer. We value and seek input from as wide a spectrum of viewpoints and experiences as possible.

Integrity: We act consistently with our beliefs. When we err, we acknowledge the mistake and seek to make amends

With this in mind I invite the members of our community to attend our Council meetings as well as PTA, PTSA and SEPTA meetings. I believe you will find much more than book sales, speakers and fundraisers-you will people who are smart and inspirational. They will challenge you to grow and empower you to be a better parent for your children and to advocate for all the children in the Island Trees community!
