Teaching Academic Skills Teaching Academic Skills

I revolve each week around 3 areas: the theme of the week, Literacy time (the letter of the week) & a Bible theme. Each area has their own objectives. For example:

Center Time Objectives:

* Social/Emotional: The child will use parallel and cooperative play with other children through sharing & taking turns. The child will attempt problem solving and respond well to guidance and discipline.

* Readiness: The child will begin to develop small motor skills. The child will begin to develop pre-reading & math skills.

* Science: The child will discuss how God made animals different and how they are all important.

Circle Time Objectives: The child will participate in group activities by reciting finger plays & singing songs, listening to stories, speaking before the group & listening while others speak

Literacy Time Objective: The child will develop an understanding of the sounds of language

Bible Objective: The child will begin to understand Jesus’ love for them & know that Jesus has the power to do anything because he is God’s son.

I teach with a hands-on approach. Here are some of the things we do to focus on the objectives of our circle time theme, letter of the week and Bible theme:

Play games or play with learning centers & toys

Work on academic skills such as cutting with scissors or recognizing numerals

Work on soical/emotional skills such as sharing & taking turns

Eat snack

Play large motor games

Sing songs and read books
