Classroom News Upcoming School News General Information: In the Second Grade, each student will be given an assignment notebook. They will write their assignments and reminders each afternoon in the notebook. They should be taking them home every evening to be signed by their parent. If I need to write a note to you, I will usually write it in the assignment notebook, so it is important that they be signed every evening. Also on Mondays, I will send home a newsletter to let you know what your child will be working on that week. Also, all assignments are listed on this website. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please write me a note (you may write one in your child's assignment notebook) or you may call me at school. (347-8872). This is my direct line. You may call anytime during the day and leave a message. Please keep in mind though that I will personally not answer the phone (since it is during teaching time) and I may not be able to check my messages until the end of the day, so if you need to leave a message that affects your child for the same day, such as a change in transportation or an appointment, please call the school office (347-2072) and leave a message with them. I also have an email address, which is: amrheinc@olv-school.org so you may feel free to email me about any questions or concerns you may have. I am looking forward to a GREAT year! Spanish: Mondays PE: Mondays and Tuesdays (please have your child wear their gym clothes and sneakers to school on this day) Art and Music: Wednesdays Library: Thursdays Computer: Fridays Homework: Homework will be given Monday through Thursday nights. Your child will spend an average of 20-25 minutes on homework each evening. For Reading and Language Arts, each student is expected to do the following as needed: read silently or aloud, practice Reading vocabulary words, and study spelling words. Regarding the vocabulary words: Your child will not be taking home a list of vocabulary words. Instead the 2nd grade teachers will list the vocabulary words on our webpage and also in our classroom newletter, so you may briefly go over them with your child as needed. Regarding the spelling words: On Fridays, I will be sending home a small packet of spelling worksheets, along with their spelling list for the week. Please have your child complete the spelling packets and return to school the following Friday (they will have a week to complete the worksheets). Also, I would like each student to read the story that we are on that week (out of their reader) on Tuesday nights. Daily written work will consist of Math. I will also we giving out several book report projects this year, usually about once a month. Your child may also have a project for Social Studies, Science, or Health. You will find your child's homework assignments on the newsletter, my webpage, and in your child's assignment notebook.
