Pennsylvania Project Pennsylvania Project

PA Scrapbook and Scavenger Hunt

As part of the fourth grade study of PA History, each child will participate in a PA Scrapbook and Scavenger Hunt Project. Collected items will be displayed in a scrapbook due May 19th. Each item has a designated point value and 100 points is the required number of points due. Half of the points are from 5 required activities. Some of these items are easy to find. Others may require a little extra effort. Scrapbook creativity is also important and will be part of the final grade.

1 point each

  • Map of Lancaster City or Lancaster County
  • Banner from the  Intelligencer Journal, Lancaster New Era, and The Sunday News
  • Colored drawing or photograph of a logo from a Lancaster or PA sports team
  • Colored drawing or photograph of the Pennsylvania state flag
  • List of 5 Pennsylvania authors and their works
  • Photo of you in your parish church
  • Picture of the President Avenue/Buchanan Avenue intersecting street sign
  • Name of our bishop and the pastors of our 5 Lancaster parishes
  • List of the counties of Pennsylvania
  • Schedule of Amtrak’s times/routes for PA stations
  • Business cards from 5 Lancaster or Pennsylvania businesses

  • A paragraph explaining the symbols on the Pennsylvania flag
  • Photograph of you in front of the state capital
  • Paragraph about 5 Pennsylvania rivers
  • Photograph of you on the Gettysburg Battlefield
  • Book report on any book read with a PA theme or setting
  • Ticket stub or program AND paragraph summarizing a visit to the Fulton Opera House
  • Ticket stub or program AND paragraph summarizing visit to Lancaster/PA sporting event
  • Ticket stub or program AND paragraph summarizing visit to Lancaster/PA museum
  • Photographs of you in front of 5 famous landmarks in Lancaster or Pennsylvania
  • Short report explaining the Pennsylvania railroad system
  • Drawn map labeling the 5 regions of Pennsylvania
  • Short report on the natural resources of Pennsylvania
  • Short report on colonial Pennsylvania
  • Other-with teacher permission

Required Activities: (10 points each)

  • Draw and color a physical map of Pennsylvania labeling cities, rivers, mountains, etc.
  • Choose a famous Pennsylvania to research and write about
  • Write a brief report on how Lancaster was founded
  • Write a brief report on how Pennsylvania got its name
  • Create a chart showing the 10 largest Pennsylvania cities by population
     

Points from scavenger hunt:                             50 
Points from required activities                          50
Points for knowledge of information                20
Points for scrapbook creativity/neatness           20
Points for meeting project’s requirements         10

PA Scrapbook & Scavenger Hunt Expectations/Requirements Checklist


General Instructions

 

  • The term “scrapbook” refers to any item that will securely hold its contents. (scrapbook, photo album, binder, construction paper booklet, etc).
  • Scrapbook creativity may be achieved through decorating using markers, colored pencils, crayons, computer art, etc.- craft store materials are not necessary.
  • The title of the entry and its point value must accompany each item.
  • Each page in the scrapbook must be numbered.
  • Work may be typed or hand written.
  • All written work is to be edited to receive full point values.
  • Entries may be placed in the book in any order you choose.
  • Points from the scavenger hunt section must equal 100 exactly.
  • Required activities are worth 10 points each and are in additional to the 50 scavenger hunt points required.
  • Fill out and attach the “Scrapbook Contents” sheet to  the back of your project.
  • Students will be asked to explain each page of their scrapbook.
  • Photographs used in this project must have been taken this school year.
  • Every few weeks, students will report on the progress of their project.
  • The scrapbook is due on May 19, 2009.

 

Except for the few requirements listed above, students have the freedom to design and arrange this project to their own liking. Many Pennsylvania links can be found on the classroom website. If you have any questions about this project, please contact me.
